Probably just lacking that bit of acceleration/pace to actually get fully past the defender when he cuts in from the right.

Yea agree. Actually nearly prefer him played more centrally then as an out and out winger. Def would prefer him in the 10 role to Hendrick. Always strikes me as one of our few players who is comfortable on the ball and happy to receive it.
Would you f**king stop. O dowda a better option than Hendrick?? Jeff Is no pele but he’s a hell of a lot better than o Dowda. Can’t even get A regular game for bristol city ffs. Thank god closest some people on here get to management is fantasy premier league

Not in the No. 10 role but O'Dowda is more of a winger and Hendrick is a central midfield player. Not much point comparing them imo.
Wings? They're only the band The Beatles could have been.

O'Dowda does have genuine pace and Kenny will have his own ideas how best to utilise his talents. Martin O'Neill was constantly trying to improve his confidence as he seemed to doubt his own abilities. I think and hope we have yet to see the best of him.

People have been very quick to write off players like Hayes, Curtis and Horgan in the past but O'Dowda hasn't been any better in the ample game time he's been given.

I'd have to agree, a mid table championship player at best.

Sadly that gets you into the ireland first 11

You do realise he has been injured for about 4 month? This was his first game back...

Can anyone tell me in detail (even though they're not competing for the same position) why exactly Hendrick is a better player than O'Dowda?

A detailed analysis please. Not some vague bluster that culminates in something to the effect of "well Jeff plays in the premier League".

Yep I believe he always looks comfortable on the ball. Hendrick has been atrocious this year. He is an athlete but just completely anonymous in every game I see him. We need players willing to try get on the ball and play a bit.

I havent seen too much of him. He looks like he should be a good footballer, has the swagger but appears to be far too silent type, soft lad and desperately lacks a burst of acceleration.

Know nothing about his background but for some reason i think he should be rowing in a regatta or playing cricket rather than playing football.

You might be onto something there. I think he's from a very sporty family. You get the impression he could have ended up playing any sport.

I played football with a really talented guy when I was younger who went on to play cricket for Ireland. Obviously. Confused he played about 10 sports. O'Dowda seems like he's cut from a similar cloth.

Goal and an assist in his last two games. He hasn’t lived up to his potential so far, but he gets the benefit of the doubt in my eyes because he’s not afraid of the ball. Could probably do with spending a bit more time in the gym
You asked if I'd be anyone from history, fact or fiction, dead or alive:
I said "I'd be Tony Cascarino, circa 1995"

Off after 12 minutes with injury. He has absolutely no luck.
