Thw 2018 and 2022 tournaments were tied together in terms of TV rights, sponsorship, contracts etc.  You couldn't cancel one without cancelling the other.  But now that Russia 2018 is over...

Yeah before the WC the chance was at 0.0001%

Now it has actually doubled to 0.0002%

Bump...

Not sure if I can see this happening, considering that other countries in the Gulf region cutting off diplomatic ties with Qatar last year.

FIFA have abandoned plans for a 48-team World Cup for Qatar 2022

2026 will still be 48 teams though.

Only just realised that with the preliminary qualifiers about to start in Asia, Qatar 2022 still does not have an official logo

Great decision. I've no problem with it going to 48 teams and probably 64 eventually but a last minute change to 48 in Qatar was pure greed and would have caused more problems then it's worth.

It will be some sort of health and safety logo just without the health and safety

A 64 team World Cup will be pure sh1te.

At the moment there is only a Max of 8 teams that can win it out of 32.
It will still be a Max of 8 teams out of 64 but lots more games of lower quality.

With the 48 teams idea they had plans to bring in Iran to have games played there . Now I must say would have loved that to kick around in Iran for a few days but that was never going to work now was it .
Hey will we get there is another question
Lansdowne Road debut aged 52 and 201 days .

Would have liked 48 to increase our odds of qualifying. Not sure we qualify for a 32 team 2022 tournament.

Dead in the water thank f**k.

Leave the tournament at 32.

I could agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.

Only for 2022. 48 team tournament will be the norm from the North American WC in 2026

They should.

They won't.

It's a money making sham and all it will see is more dross in the group stages and fewer high quality games.
