If they keep all games to the West Coast that would be great, Just Drive the I-5 from Vancouver down to Mexico, stopping in Seattle, Portland, San Fran, LA, San Diego & Tijuana.

Perfect times for watching matches here at home.
KO’s would be about 5pm, 8pm and 11pm Irish time.

Baseball stadiums for football are sh*t. Yankee Stadium is a prime example

I know Rodgers Center has retractable seating and not as bad as normal baseball stadiums. I guess the main reasons its not on the list that trying to get a hold of it during the height of baseball season was impossible.

They currently have 13/32 which is approx 40%

They should have demanded 40% of the increase.

Okay SA have strong teams but the others sections are much weaker than some of the European teams sitting at home.
Every expansion of the World Cup has been about buying votes from smaller Asian and African federations. The last expansion is no different.
True but Europe have the most teams already for a very good reason. They have basically given away 3 places.

One of those could be Ireland SD. You need to be angry about this.

Ah I know that. I just know that FIFA politicking is hard to defeat. Let's face it, the only way FIFA changes is if UEFA and CONMEBOL threaten to leave... but they won't do that without the US (for the money). It's quite unlikely.

An indirect consequence of US/Canada/Mexico getting World Cup 2026 is that it will mean it's less likely Qatar will be stripped of hosting in four year's time.

If the 2022 World Cup were to be taken away from Qatar, the US would have been the most likely alternative hosts.  But now they've been awarded the 2026 edition...

Germany, France and England could all host it at (relative) short notice

It's a bit of a joke that UEFA doesn't get a slot in the play off tournament (unless the hosts are from UEFA). In my view with Oceania getting their automatic qualification slot, they shouldn't get a playoff slot, it should go to UEFA. Whoever Oceania sends to the playoff will just get absolutely battered.

But as this World Cup is in Europe, the next one can’t be.

More bad news, matches at the 2026 World Cup will be on at inconvenient times for European viewers.

Like it or not, the US is now a soccer nation. MLS has the seventh highest average league attendance in the world. Americans are the biggest travelling support going to Russia 2028. And that’s without even qualifying. It’s not a stretch to suppose that, unlike USA 94, World Cup 2026 games will be scheduled to suit American viewers. Expect matches to kick off at 1am Irish time in 2026

Also, the biggest winner of World Cup 2026 is Fox Sports. They had the US TV rights Qatar 2022, and in order to stave off a lawsuit over that tournament being moved to winter, FIFA gave them TV rights to 2026 for free.

The World Cup will 100% be in Qatar in 4 years time.

Why are people still dreaming that it will be moved?

Once it’s awarded, contracts are signed. It’s a done deal.

Did FIFA sue Colombia for pulling out of hosting the 86 WC ?

After watching Spain v Portugal last night I totally get the calls to reduce the number of teams in the World Cup.
It should be the best v the best.
Like the champions league there is too many teams in there just to make up the numbers.

It’s not good from an Ireland perspective but would make for a much better tournament.

Also I would do a draw each round.
I don’t see why we need to know Brazil’s potential path to the final. It would create more drama and uncertainty.
