I was in both Deane's Meat Locker and Howard Street recently (they are beside one another, about a ten minute walk from the hotel). I preferred Howard Street, some of the others preferred Meat Locker, but they were both very good and decent value on the early bird.

James Street South is meant to be nice as well.

Houlihans buddy. Best spot in Belfast on Oxford Street, although as SD mentioned Howard Street is a lovely spot so is Flame literally next door I personally prefer Flame large Argentinian grill where the chefs cook the food In front of you fantastic range of local fish and meats.

James Street south has had its name for a number of years now, I personally wouldn't recommend Deanes it's not what it use to be! In my opinion.

If you're looking a fish dish.. Mourne Seafood, is the best place to go. Hard to beat, local fresh fish daily from Ardglass Kilkeel etc my local area!

Belfast has some excellent food at great value.

Will you be staying in the city all during your stay?
I just thought I'd mention these few places where I've been to just in case you plan on visiting anywhere outside of Belfast City, and if you like your fish and chips.

Fáilte Restaurant,Falls Road.
Pretty upmarket but not too expensive, and this establishment was set up by former Celtic player Niall McGinn.

Bia,Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich,Falls Road.
Lovely place, lovely staff and great food.As well as that, they will speak Irish with you.

Michelles Fish and Chips,Ardoyne.
Fish is absolutely gorgeous here.
His last fond wish had been fulfilled to lie in his native land, and the wild waves roll in peace again on the lonely Banna Strand.

There is another Fáilte now above the Hercules bar at the back of Castle Court/ 500m past Primark its a well known bar ask anyone they'll point you in the right direction. Great bar too actually where my GAA tickets come from! LOL

Cosmo is like a buffet style restaurant that is suppose to be good. Haven't been myself but have heard others talking about. Suppose to have plenty of variety.

Yeah, it's a chain. There is one here in Reading also. It's OK and no more than that.

Villa Italia near Queen's is nice. Good honest Italian fair and a business I would support as they were here in the dark days when many people wouldn't have dreamed of opening a business in Belfast.

James Street South mentioned above is good. As is Mourne Seafood bar. Pop into Kelly's and you will likely meet Olympic boxer Paddy Barnes who seems to be in there every time I go. (Drinking a coffee and having a chat)

Cosmo in Reading is an abomination. Full of fat sl*gs with 7 kids hanging off their tits shovelling as much cold food onto their plate as possible.

If you like facial tattoos Cosmos is for you.

Given that state of the clientele in the Reading one god only knows what the Belfast Cosmos

I second that,

The one in Belfast is over looked by TGI Fridays... When you look across chaos is unfolding.

Cosmos certainly isn't for aspirational young professionals like yourself and myself Byrner.

The thought of rolling out of it and going across the road to the Hope Tap Wetherspoons in Reading makes me feel physically sick.

The sense of desperation from the fellow punters in both places is contagious.

The day of the Germany game we had a Gatwick train to catch and my mate insisted we go into a pint in Wetherspoons at 9am. I refused. Not for people like us Byrner

Is Weatherspoons ever a great idea ?? The one thing I would say in The Hope Tap's favour is that it isn't The Monk's Retreat !

The Horn in Reading...... went in there once and witness a chap catch and kill a pigeon in the yard.

Went in a second time and some drunken Mick Builder called me Calvin Klein because i was wearing a suit and started shouting at me across the bar angling for a fight.

Monks retreat never been. Some filthy pubs in Reading.
