A big tribute deserved, along with big Jack, as soon as crowds are back for the next home game

Tragic. Gave us an amazing moment we will never forget, but was by all accounts a great pro and a gentleman also. RIP.

RIP Alan.

Came across as very brave while dealing with his illness.

Will always be remembered for that goal, but he made a considerable amount of caps also.

Sad news

A lovely tribute. Very well said.

What is remarkable was the fact that he played such an important role in the squad, while only playing small amounts, on the pitch in the efforts to qualify for Euro '92, 96, and USA 94. I recall always seeing him involved in friendly matches (Tilburg sticks out in my mind, as does Wales at Tolka Park). After MM took over he got a proper run, and was probably unlucky not to reach 50 caps.

I wonder should the No 14 be retired from the national team?

Given the impact of his goal in Belfast and the tragic nature of his early passing.
