I wondered if they would have considered delaying it for the Euros, but no. Still, looks like a decent route, and hopefully a few more sprinters stages than last year. Nine flat stages, and I'd be hoping at least six of those are geared up for a pure sprinter finish, no sharp hills at the end, or cobbles, or big hills 20km out to encourage breakaways..... a couple like that are fine, but I feel for the last few years, there haven't been enough mass sprint finishes, compared to maybe five years ago.

Would have loved to have caught this while Ireland were playing during the Euros....but we'd have to get to the quarters just to make a stage of it :(

Astonishing drama today!

Froome was taking time out of Quintana on the shortened finish up Mont Ventoux but crashed into a race motorbike with a couple of kilometres left. Froome's bike was smashed and he had to literally run up the mountain for a couple of hundred metres!

He eventually took a neutral bike but it didn't fit him and he could barely ride it.

He's provisionally lost the yellow jersey and all his rivals have taken up to minute and a half on him.

Holy Sh1t wonder will this make any difference!

Stage 12 of the Tour de France saw Chris Froome forced to run some of the way up Mont Ventoux in farcical scenes following a crash with a motorbike.

It cost the yellow jersey holder the race lead, as compatriot Adam Yates took the overall lead.

Provisionally, Froome, who was involved in a crash with Richie Porte and Bauke Mollema, has dropped down to sixth in the general classification.

The stage was won by Belgian Thomas de Gendt.

Think there will be war from the top riders if the jury allow that result to stand.

Froome was in a three man group with Bauke Mollema and Richie Porte. Mollema was leading the way and crashed into the motorbike with Froome crashing into a combination of Mollema and the motorbike. Porte got away from it.

The stage was only shortened late last night - with the top six kilometres cut off the course, all the crowds who would have been on the top 6km were forced down the mountain to add to the already significant crowd who would have been there, causing more congestion than otherwise would have been the case - also I think the barriers did not go as far back the course from the finish as usual due to the late notice of where the finish would be.

Similar happened in 2011 and result stood. Given that it's Sky, they'll probably give Froome something back. Farcical scenes.

No it was the the dozy aussie who run into the back of the motorbikeLOL

If you've just joined us...

...you haven't missed much.

Wait. You've missed loads.

Here's a recap:

On the climb to the finish of stage 12, with Thomas de Gendt having already won the stage, Chris Froome, Richie Porte and Bauke Mollema broke away and left Nairo Quintana for dead.

It was a race between the three yellow jersey contenders, until Porte went into the back of a motorbike that had been stopped by spectators.

All three riders crashed. Porte and Mollema were able to get back on their bikes and finish.

Froome had a technical problem and started jogging to the finish (I repeat, he started jogging).

He was eventually given a new bike, but couldn't get his shoes into the pedals.

Another bike came, but he finished way down on his rivals and, if the result stands, will relinquish the yellow jersey to Adam Yates.

However, Froome's tweet below suggests Tour bosses have got involved.

Froome was lucky he didnt end up like Tom Simpson in 1967, crikey.

In the thirteenth stage of the 1967 Tour de France, Simpson collapsed and died during the ascent of Mont Ventoux. He was 29 years old. The post-mortem examination found that he had mixedamphetamines and alcohol; this diuretic combination proved fatal when combined with the heat, the hard climb of the Ventoux and a stomach complaint. A memorial near where he died has become a place of pilgrimage for many cyclists. Simpson was known to have taken performance-enhancing drugs during his career, when no doping controls existed. He is held in high esteem by many cyclists for his character and will to win.
