It's been coming for months, but Cullen's promotion to the Premier League with Burnley confirmed tonight.

Kenny mentioned it was the first time in a while the French pressed high. They had not done it during the WC. They obviously did their homework on us as if you press high against us the ball ends up being hit long a lot of the time. This is because we do not have a midfielder who is willing to turn on the ball under pressure when receiving from the CBs & WBs. The ball usually goes sideways or backwards. Cullen & Molumby give us a good base but we badly need someone who will turn on the ball in these situations. Hopefully Smallbone or a similar player will find their into the team to fix this as once it is I reckon we will have a good team on our hands.

Cullen's been excellent since he came in. Unfortunate that the keeper made the save from his corner. It would have been some sort of redemption for him.
We didn't switch play to our WB's enough but I'd nearly put that down to the CB's and WB's more than the midfield, who are often guilty of playing it safe. Against France that's understandable. There were times in the first half that O'Shea or Egan had the ball and if Coleman had stepped on another 5 yards, he was on to receive the switch. I think O'Shea tried one but Coleman didn't anticipate it and it went out of play. I can understand him not wanting to push on because of Mbappe's threat but our midfield aren't the only ones playing it safe at times. It was the same in the 2nd half when McClean came on, Collins (ended up the left of the three IIRC) had the chance to speed things up and play it in front of McClean to get him going forward, but the passes were slow and behind him so it took all the tempo out of it.

Coleman was having a go at Bazunu a few times during the game because of his distribution.

Very little I disagree with there. Midfielders were too cagey with the ball and the pass to Knight a half arsed passive sideways pass was a by-product of that. Knight was running into the space expecting a ball forward. Only comment id disagree with is Bazunus distribution. It was fine in the main and helped us get out of our own half a good few times.

Ya hard too slate Cullen too much, it was a poor mistake and he probably knows himself. I don't remember him making any other mistakes all match last night other than that pass.
Hopefully he has the bit between his teeth now and he makes amends during the campaign for us.

Josh has been our best player for quite a while now. Given the nature of the role he plays and our lack of quality especially in midfield, it is remarkable that more of his passes don't go astray. Says a lot that this is the first time we are hearing any criticism of him. Still you can't shoot all the numpties in the world.

Probably worth remembering that he's only taking the set pieces because none of our more specialist set piece takers are getting starts at the moment. Unfortunately there isn't a player in our current best 11 who is a regular set piece taker at club level. If Smallbone breaks in he'll probably take them over.

Shout out to Josh today, I'm sure he's feeling awful after the rick last night, but these things happen, split second decision. He's been absolutely brilliant for us from day one and I see folks criticising his general performance last night which really rankles with me. He was very very good, bar some (not all) poor set piece deliveries and the obvious rick and he was a key reason why they didnt really create a whole lot of note throughout the game.
