I remember Sid Waddell was forever telling me to read his World Cup diary as it was excellent apparently.

It was very good, although of its time. I read it back in the nineties.

He did another book about a land owning family during the famine, which was very good.

Joseph O’Connor.

Had a series of books during the 90s which were excellent, very funny.  Much more of a serious author now though.  Very good writer though.

I just learned he is Sinead O'Connor's brother. I got one of his books The Secret Life of the Irish Male years ago. At that age I doubt there was any other book I never finished, and I would read books that I hated to the end.

But O'Connor's book was so sh*t I couldn't finish it. Maybe his other books are grand.
It would damage this forums' reputation

I really like them I must say.  Read them as a late teenager.  Clever witty and well written imo.
