I’m sure not all the pilots are on €172,000 now but bloody hell......chocks away Ginger.

Some of the figures I've found show a basic salary is €85,000 for pilots but average income of about €156,000, including expenses, pension contributions, productivity allowances and sectoral payments (based on how many hours they fly).

If the pilots are asking for an increase in basic salary to €171,000 but get rid of all of their extra allowances, is it really a 101% pay increase? Or is it a 10% increase?

Those numbers might not be accurate but the 101% increase cannot be correct either; I'd be fairly confident my numbers are closer to the truth than 101% is. Also, if average income for a pilot is €156,000 but only half of it is guaranteed, and the pilots ask for all of it to be guaranteed but agree to eliminate the extras, is it a pay increase at all? If it is has no payroll impact on the employer, but increases certainty of wages for the pilots, don't both sides gain? The employees with greater income certainty, the employer with more predictable salary costs....

I don't know the exact figures, but I'd be confident the claim the pilots are seeking a 101% increase is not the same as saying that what the pilots are seeking will cost ryanair 101% more in pilot staffing costs for the same pilots manning the same flights.

Only learned this yesterday when I was reading the paper, and it could actually be posted on the thick thread, but I always thought that Beirut hostage Brian Keenan was a catholic. Only found out he was from a loyalist background in east Belfast

What does Cinderella and Brian Keenan have in common?
They both have 2 ugly sisters!

That book was tough to read. We read it in school, which possibly didn’t help, even though there was plenty books I had to read in school and enjoyed too,  but I felt I had gone through a bigger ordeal than he did by the end of it.

Didn't know that Neil Fitzmaurice (who played Ray Von in Phoenix Nights and Jeff in Peep Show) was caught up in the Hillsborough disaster and was lucky to survive

He gives a graphic account of what he experienced here:

Michael Douglas is 75 today. Catherine Zeta-Jones is 50 today. Marrying someone exactly a quarter of a century younger than you probably helps in some kind of Hollywood blood sacrifice.
