Well there is no clear eveidence in the piece that follows, Conn distances himself from it, it is there between the lines. 28 league clubs, from all four divisions, appear to be at. You just got to love how the people's game is being run. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/apr/14/english-football-clubs-owned-abroad-tax-avoidance

The piece is a bit of a nothing in the end. Where the owners domicile the holding company is irrelevant, the football clubs have to pay tax in England. The Man U situation is different however.

The use of Employment Benefit Trusts that Rangers and Arsenal and others used to avoid tax on wages to players was much more significant tax avoidance.
How many of these football clubs will actually be sold for a profit? Very few I imagine - maybe only the top 5 or 6? |

Newcastle United tax probe: Club loses High Court challenge over seized documentsNewcastle United "systematically abused" the tax system to "secretly" make payments to agents said the court and HMRC said it believed "NUFC systematically abused the tax system... and all payments to agents made were potentially the subject of criminal proceedings". A spokesman for HMRC said: "We are very pleased with the court's decision which we are studying in detail. We do not comment on individual cases or ongoing investigations." And it seems that contrary to what some people think, significantly fewer EFL clubs are going into administration, or even risking it, then earlier in the century. And it seems this is at least partly down to League FFP/Profitability & Sustainability rules. Moreover, it is despite a much more aggressive policy by the Taxman to chase clubs and issue Winding-Up Petitions:

Winding up petitions and the taxman have no relevance.
PM has already covered the taxman issue in the very first post in the thread - A good high % of clubs are registered overseas in tax havens nowadays, the HMRC can't touch those clubs with a barge pole if they tried. Recent winding up petitions are all from creditors - The recent stories about HMRC hitting Newcastle and a few other clubs a few months back is because they're companies registered in England so they're vulnerable to investigation
