Yep, Michael stays, the Jocks have been knocked back, and 'Agent Martin' is still operating under cover down Mexico way!

What with Wales appointing that dipstick Giggs, all we need is for nothing to happen to Gareth Southgate anytime soon, and it will have been quite a week for international football in the (ahem) British Isles.

Or should that be "<span style="color: rgb33, 33, 33; font-family: inherit; white-space: pre-wrap;">Na hOileáin Bhriotanacha"? Wink</span>

No - let's go with Oileáin Iarthair Eorpa.

Jamal Lewis a young prospect is now getting game time at Norwich, they've recruited George Saville (having a very good season at Millwall), Jordan Jones at Killie who's been linked with numerous clubs are just 3 in the space of a couple of months.

No doubt O'Neill will scan through every division in England and Scotland in the next couple of months to beef up their options and playing pool.

Also, international football as we only know too well is as much about being organized and hard to beat as it is having 11 superstars!

I'm sure he is in a better place to know what's coming up through the ranks than any of us.

Quite.

Besides, all of the "big" players, barring maybe McAuley, Hughes and Brunt (plus squad players Ward and  Carroll) should have at least one more campaign in them, and he didn't have either McNair, Cathcart or Boyce for the last campaign, so they're like "new" players.

And with there being 24 places at the Euro2020 Finals, plus the Nations League "backdoor", I'd guess Michael fancies his chances for one more go at a tournament.

If he doesn't take another job before then LOL

It is great news for NI and the vast majority of their fans appear to be delighted.  I think Scotland would have been a bad choice for him as expectations are unrealistic.  Failure to qualify for 2020 would probably have been the end of his scotland career whereas the IFA are likely to be more understanding.

They may want to tie him down before the Americans start looking next month though.  Now that is a job Michael would be mad to turn down.

Absolutely. Any that aren't delighted are idiots.

It depends on whose expectations you're talking.
Fact is, Scotland haven't qualified for a damned thing in 20 years. Therefore so long as the SFA held their nerve, like the IFA did during Michael's first (disastrous) campaign with us, then they could reap a longer term benefit.
Besides which, I've no doubt Michael would only have negotiated/agreed a contract which was designed to protect him against early dismissal.
And with the SFA already going far further than they've ever done with a manager's salary, they certainly wouldn't want to shell out a big pay-off after a single, failed qualifying campaign.

Agree.
That said, there'll likely be a raft of good candidates in for it, so he's hardly a "shoo-in" and in any case, you don't know who the new Federation President will be - he/she might already have a preferred Head Coach in mind?
Plus there would be ferocious travelling involved, both within the USA and over to Europe to assess his own players; plus all around Canada, Mexico and Central America/Caribbean to play away matches or assess the opposition. This would be the exact opposite of his present set-up, so may not suit his family/personal situation?

But maybe I'm just "whistling past the graveyard" on that one?

Yeah, it would be a poxy job travelling around the states, Canada, south america and the Caribbean to watch players compared to travelling around Scotland, occupied 6 and England.

Anyone who has ever done any business travelling will tell you that hotels and airports soon pall, since you never get to see the actual places you "visit".

And have you ever changed planes at Atlanta? Shocked

I have done both. Have you ever been stuck in Birmingham airport for 6 hours?

No one should ever be - it's 10 minutes to New Street!

Not when you have gone past security and your flight is delayed.

On the brightside, six hours stuck in Birmingham Airport is still better than six hours in Birmingham* itself.

* - I assume you mean the one in the English Midlands, though it may also apply to the one in Alabama.

Ah well at least the flight to Belfast is 45 minutes - rather than 7 hours plus a connection from Statlanta..
