The North made 2 subs in the 120th minute last night. They were the first 2 penalty takers, both scored. Good tactic. Even if they're not the greatest penalty takers of all time, the fresh legs has to count for something over someone who's been playing for 2 hours

The subs at 119' (Washington and Boyce) took #4 and #5. Lafferty came on at the start of extra time and was #2

Both Washington and Boyce were seen as penalty "specialists" (or as close as we have). Washington took the 4th pen, Boyce the decisive 5th. With each it was the only touch they got!

Meanwhile a 90th minute sub, Lafferty, scored the 2nd penalty, whilst our regular penalty taker and Captain, Steven Davis, wasn't in the first five.

Bara also declined to bring on Trevor Carson as his shoot-out gk - he had saved 3 out of 4 for Motherwell in a shoot-out in Europe a couple of weeks back, albeit against part-timers from Coleraine.

Actually the two lads they replaced were still fresh - they'd both come on as subs for Extra Time before being substituted again themselves!

Whatever else, Bara worked his whole subs and shoot-out strategy spot on.

EDIT: Just noticed FU's post (above)

Read livescore the wrong way. Worked well

Why have they only allowed 600 fans in tonight? A full house at Windsor Park would have been brilliant in the current climate.

First time watching them in a long time and they are terrible, should be 2 or 3 down.

Shocking.  Could have easily conceded 4 or 5 in 25 mins that I was watching.  Gutted that we couldn't get past Slovakia.  Slovakia will hammer them.

Disagree
Think the north will get past them quite comfortably

Based on what? Have the North any players to come back in?

Slovakia should have Skriniar and Lobotka available.

Based on the fact that over the last 5 or 6 years these are the sort of teams they beat, especially at Windsor

I certainly wouldn’t be paying much heed to tonight’s game.

For the last 5 years on here, people have constantly wrote them off and even when they qualified wouldn't even get any points in euro 2016. I think N.I. will actually be favourites in that Slovakia match. Most on here probably thought Bosnia would beat them. Don't be putting the kiss of death on the Slovakians LOL

I did expect them to be weakened from O'Neill's departure but their draw in Romania with 10 men for the majority of the match and their penalty shoot out win against Bosnia were impressive results. Baraclough looks to be a more than decent replacement for O'Neill so far.

They may well get relegated to League C but also qualify for the euros next year. I would probably take that if it was us tbh.

Wings? They're only the band The Beatles could have been.

I saw them when they got hammered 5-1 last month.  They are shockingly bad.  Nowhere near the same team under MON

I think N.I. will go through but not that comfortably as Slovakia were a really big physical side which I wasn't expecting in our game the other night. I'd say it'll be cagey enough and will go into extra time.

Should they qualify, I've a gulag holiday booked in Siberia next June for the week they're playing in Dublin. Welcome to join me Baggio as its cheaper per person sharing. Tongue

Yeah the Norway hammering was a one off
The only other team I can remember them losing to who weren’t a European big boy at Windsor in recent years was Switzerland and they were very unlucky with refereeing decisions

Slovakia aren’t up to much at all. On another night we’d have beaten them by 2 or 3. Think they north will get through sadly

Austria are completely taking the piss here

Far, far superior, it's like they're playing a different sport

They won’t have a crowd next month the way things are going and from what we have seen in their last two games it makes a massive difference.
