I'm not quite sure how they manage these results. We've a team with 8 or 9 premier league players and they've one star player and the rest made up of championship and league 1 players

They have some good young players. Jodie Spencer look like a good prospect at FB/WB. He's only 19. Shea Charles is in and out of the Southampton team, but still only 20 and former Man City. Isaac Price left Everton for Standard Liège last summer, and it's going well for him. Also only 20. Callum Marshall is on loan at West Brom from West Ham. He's also only 19. Conor Bradley is the crown jewel. 20 and doing very well at Liverpool. Michael O'Neill seems to be repeating history after a tough start both times in the job. |

Northern Ireland have been really impressive lately. A 2-0 home win over Denmark followed by a draw in Romania then the win last night. A limited bunch of players well organised and well managed. The bulk of the Scotland fanbase up until the 80's would have been Rangers fans. This has changed a lot since. Now I would guess the Tartan Army is mainly fans of other clubs. There is also strong support for independence among the football fanbase.

Absolutely all of this. A quick read of the match thread on the Tartan Army forum will highlight to anyone the disconnect from reality that the Scots have. Lots of them complaining about Nordies singing Rangers songs, and saying that they should f**k off back to Ireland etc. They just don't get it - the staunch, flute-playing, Ulster says no 'culture' that the orange men have, comes directly from Scotland - they should f**k off back to there.

Scots are the biggest spoofers going. Claim they hate England. Coouldn't tick a box to leave. One of the biggest participants in the British Empire. They have good PR making others think they "Hate England More Than You" They're the reason for the plantations up north and why we have those Ulster Scots headbangers up there. Joke of a "country"

The Scots booing GTSK is a head scratcher to me. The majority within Northern Ireland's Unionist community, have Scottish ancestry. Their British identity is deeply tied to this Scottish heritage. Yet, the Scots, despite voting to stay in the UK, seem to reject GSTK as if they're distancing themselves from the very union they chose to remain part of. This is very ironic, considering Scotland's role in the historical and cultural ties between Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the rest of the UK, including the plantation of Ulster that cemented Unionist sentiments in the province. Adding to the confusion, Scottish football fans also fly Irish tricolours at club games, claiming Irish heritage, while paradoxically booing the Irish anthem in matches against Ireland. It seems like a complex denial or perhaps a selective embrace of their intertwined histories and identities. It must have been a confusing night for the 'GAWA', finding themselves in Glasgow, cheering for their team in green, against a team in blue. Don't even get me started on the additional complications of the 'Govan loyal - no surrender brigade'. The British really did a fantastic job at creating a political cluster f**k in Ulster and Scotland, absolutely none of it makes sense.

Lanark Loyal and Larkhall Loyal flags in the NI end last night.
Scottish football fans sitting in the away end at Hampden and celebrating a catholic GAA player from Tyrone scoring against Scotland, whilst swearing allegiance to a Dutch homosexual king from the 17th century. Edited by Roberto Baggio - 27 Mar 2024 at 9:33am |
