COVID made last season a highly anomylous one. Did this somehow pass you by? In any case, even if you, personally, think La Liga is slightly ahead (no-one can seriously suggest any other league comes close), it's hardly ludicrous to suggest the PL is in fact the best.

Did Covid disappear overnight? What a ridiculous comment! Stopped reading after that.

There are about 7/8 decent teams in the Premier League, after that there are some horrible sides.
If you are taking the merits of sides like Liverpool, City and United then you have to consider the absolute state of the likes of Burnley, Fulham, WBA, Sheffield Utd, Newcastle etc When talking about best league in the world. Edited by BrendanD88 - 30 Oct 2020 at 12:40pm |

The other leagues may have one team which individually be amongst the very best - Bayern, Juve, PSG - and Spain a couple. But none comes close to the PL for having a "Big Six" i.e. strength in depth at the highest level, whilst also being competitive enough at the next level (Europa League).

You're the one who brought up last season's results as being proof positive of the PL's inferiority! It wasn't a normal season. I don't even particularly care one way or the other, I just thought you were making a silly point.

So what do you know about the likes of Elche, Getafe, Eibar, Alaves or Huesca? Or Sassuolo, Benevento, Spezia or Crotone? Augsberg, Freiburg, Bielefeld? Angers, Brest, Nimes, Dijon? Anyone? |

How many decent teams in La Liga? Barca and Real are dogsh*t at the minute Worst they've been in years There's a serious dearth of quality teams in Europe at the minute.

Brendy’s a bit old school and too blinkered to form an unbiased opinion
Can’t admit when an English team or player are good despite being a fan of an English club

How many Champions League have English clubs won in the past 5 years? As many as Germany and less than Spain.
Spain had a monopoly on European trophies for the past decade. Lyon knocked Man City out last year FFS. Atlético knocked out Liverpool. EPL is definitely in the top 3 Leagues in Europe.

Were people not calling United dogsh*t a couple of weeks back? It was a reactionary comment from you initially saying the Premier League was the best league in the world based on a couple of decent mid week results in Europe.

Spain has had two teams win the European Cup/CL: Real (13) and Barca (5); Italy has had three: AC Milan (7), Inter (3) and Juve (2); Germany has also had three: Bayern (6), Hamburg (1) and Dortmund (1); France has had one: Marseilles (1). By contrast, England has had five separate winners: Liverpool (6), Man U (3), Forest (2), Chelsea (1) and Villa (1). Also three more Runners-Up: Leeds, Arsenal and Spurs (lost to an English team). This includes English clubs being banned from Europe for 5 years after Heysel in 1985. Considering that between 1977 and 1984 they had won 7 of the 8 finals, that was a severe blow. Moreover, the great Everton team of the time, who were that season's League Champions and had also won the ECWC, were surely ready to give the 1985/86 European Cup a bloody good go. Yet even taking the ban into account, still no other country has anything like the spread of winners and that's despite the English domestic league being much more competitive than any of the others. On which latter point, I noted in an earlier post: France - PSG have been Champions in 7 of the last 8 seasons (runner-up the other one); Spain - Barca (6) and R.Madrid (3) have won 9 of the last 10 titles, making 60 titles between them; Germany - Bayern have won the last 8 in a row, making 30 in total; Italy - Juve have won the last 9 in a row, making 36 in total. Meanwhile, the English Premier League has had 5 different winners in the last 10 years, with only one team retaining the title and then only for one season. This thread is gonna go on forever isn't it? There's so many different ways of measuring success, everyone can end up right one way or another.

La Liga has gone miles back from what it was even three years ago
I don't see how anybody can deny that Might make it more competitive but there are no outstanding teams there And La Liga was the only real competitor to the Premier League for which was the best league |

It's the most confusing thread I've ever read. If a EPL team wins a game, people claim English football is on the rise. If a EPL team gets knocked out, people claim English football is failing. Make your mind up ffs.

Agree It doesn’t matter how many CL’s La Liga have won in the last 5 or 10 years really as we’re talking about the present day, and no team in La Liga is great at the minute

Spanish clubs have won more than English clubs in the present day also. And Seville knocked out 2 English clubs on the way to winning it too!
