Osasuna dominated that match. Don’t know how Barcelona managed to scrape a win.

How did the ref not stick to his decision with that knee in the back of Lewandowski? Was that player on a yellow already? He seem to give him a straight red then didnt even give him a yellow. Bizarre stuff

Xavi is certainly doing a cracking job.

Cool

Xavi Hernandez has possibly found his perfect formation and tactical approach for FC Barcelona after they lifted the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday.

Hardly doing a cracking job when he failed to get them out of the group stages of the Champions League.

1-11 Barca probably have the best side in World Football.

Take into account that the likes of Atletico Madrid and Sevilla have been atrocious this season so there's never been a better time for someone to be taking over at a Barca side with a heap of young talent.

Barca finished thirteen points behind Real Madrid last season.

Whilst there's a long way to go this season Barcelona are currently three points ahead of Real Madrid.

Losing at Old Trafford may be the least of Barca's worries right now Shocked

La Liga clubs concerned by Barcelona’s referee payments

Barcelona has been under scrutiny since a state prosecutor was revealed to be probing club payments totaling millions of dollars to a company that belonged to the vice-president of the Spanish federation’s refereeing committee.

Barcelona has denied any wrongdoing, saying it paid for technical reports on referees but never tried to influence their decisions in games.

The league released a statement saying the majority of clubs showed “deep concern about this case, which they consider to be of the utmost seriousness.”

League president Javier Tebas said the case damaged the reputation of Spanish football and Barcelona president Joan Laporta “should resign if he can’t explain the payments.”

Barca President Laporta claims this is all a conspiracy against the club, led by La Liga President Tebas, himself known to be a Real Madrid fan.

But Tebas has hit back in no uncertain terms, suggesting on Monday that Laporta should resign if he’s unable to explain why the payments were made, citing what he described as the club’s initial “superficial statement.”

“FC Barcelona did a press release right when the whole scandal broke that made it look like every football club does this. It’s obvious that they don’t. One thing is to hire ex-referees [to do these reports], another is to hire ex-referees who are on the Technical Committee for Referees [CTA], right?

“It wasn’t just three seasons, it was a lot of seasons, also with different leaderships who, theoretically, do not speak to each other. Well, I don’t know. I don’t like it at all.”

As usual, The Guardian had a very good analysis of the Barca refereeing scandal on Monday, in particular questioning how there could be any innocent exp0lanation for these payments:

Although their additional question as to why the other clubs weren't all complaining - the implication being that some of them might also have been at it - was addressed the following day:
The league said the proposal of a joint statement from the clubs against Barcelona received “unanimous support” of all clubs in the first and second divisions with the exception of Barcelona and Real Madrid, “who objected to the joint statement for different reasons.” Madrid president Florentino Pérez has been historically at odds with Tebas [over the ESL proposal?]

Cracking result for Barca in the semi last night.

I didn't watch it did they deserve it?

Hopefully Barca can finish them off in the second leg.

It was an odd game. Very few chances for either team. Madrid had all the possession. Torres and Raphinha didnt offer a lot up front so the ball kept coming back at them. Barca really ground out a win based on a brilliant defensive performance and a fortuitous goal. Alonso and Aruajo were superb. Madrid will feel hard done by but they didnt create much.

A good tactical battle that was low on drama and chances.

Osasuna v Athletic on Wednesday night was a better match.

Barca were brilliant at the back, Araujo is the best defender in the world, so good at centre back and right back.

Torres and Raphinha are not good enough for Barca, so wasteful! Fati a shadow of the player who broke through few years back, injury ruined him a bit! Don’t rate Xavi as a coach would hope a good coach could get more out of him mind.

Big result considering they were missing their 3 best attackers in Lewandowski, Dembele and Pedri.

Barcelona charged with corruption over payments to former referees' official

Barcelona have been charged with corruption over payments the club made to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, a former vice-president of Spain's referees' committee.

Last month it emerged that Barca have paid Negreira and a company he owns a reported total of 8.4m euros (£7.4m) between 2001 and 2018.

A Barcelona court heard on Friday that Barca, former club officials and Negreira had been indicted for "corruption", "breach of trust" and "false business records".

These lawsuits, brought by the Barcelona public prosecutor's office, target the club, as well as former presidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell.

La Liga chief executive Javier Tebas said last month that current president Joan Laporta should resign if he was unable to explain the payments.

Laporta responded by saying he will not give Tebas "what he'd like by stepping down" and the charges come three days after Laporta insisted his club had "never bought referees".

"Let it be clear Barca have never bought referees and Barca have never had the intention of buying referees, absolutely never," he said on Tuesday.
