Some amount of rats trying to desert the sinking ship - Happy to stay that in spite of all that has gone on yet as soon as Boris looks like he's done for they are off.

You know when his most craven sycophants are fleeing the sinking ship and the bigger beasts are unsheathing the daggers that the clock is ticking. Dozens of resignations to date and rising. Even the support of Larry the cat can no longer be guaranteed.

The absurdity of the UK system is he can stay on as long as he likes unless the Queen gets involved. Tories VONC or even a Parliamentary vote doesn’t stop him being PM. Only can be forced out if Queen asks someone else to do the job instead.

My money is on Larry the cat to retain the Chief Mouser portfolio. What is it with Bojo ? Just another narcissistic sociopath like Trump who can’t accept he’s history. Unlike TFG he doesn’t even have an army of swivel-eyed redneck rubes to storm Westminster. Time to go, f**kwit.

I hope he hangs on in there backed up by the huge majority, and do as much damage to his party that he possibly can

Now that Brexit is ‘done’, what is left for the Tories? That mantra was supposed to carry them for the five years and it’s hardly carried them two years, as they lurched from crisis to crisis. It’s a remarkable achievement to have the working majority obliterated within 30 months.

As much as it is great to see Johnson gone, the Tories are still in power and this gives them two years to try and shake off the damage before another election.

But surely this ends any notions around keeping the “red wall” which was key to the massive majority. Without the influence of a pending Brexit and the ability to fight the election on those terms, it will be almost impossible to convince “loaned votes” to stay with them.

Labour would need to win about 128 seats in England currently held by the Tories and not lose any of their own in a general election, more than Blair managed in the 1997 landslide. The boundary changes since then have favoured the Tories. Also, Blair won more than 60 seats in Scotland. There are now only 59 seats there and Labour has just one of them. Starmer has foolishly ruled out a deal with the SNP so the Lib Dems may be able to insist on their price of a commitment to proportional representation to form a government. None of which should detract from the joy of today and the marvellously destructive chaos unleashed within a party that thoroughly deserves it.
