In fairness, his opening gambit has been to acknowledge that he won’t revert totally to the pre 2015 period, which I expect means things like nationalisations remain on the cards, and he also appeared to differentiate himself from Jess Philips on the Brexit issue. He seems to be attempting to court both sides of the LP, which I think will work to his advantage if done correctly.

Only Bloopers Epidemic.

Watch out for a future plothole and it turns out to be MBE instead.

Apparently the new LP leader will be announced on the 4th April.

Rayner launches her bid for Deputy Leadership today. I’m actually slightly surprised she isn’t going for the leadership.

Rebecca Long Bailey extends the list to six. Given that the consensus is that she is the closest to Corbyn, and the manner in which the leader is selected, she will undoubtedly be a proper challenger.

Even if she is part of the Corbyn machine, she carries little or none of the baggage he did so she won’t have to deal with that in the same way if elected.

Anyone other than RLB and I am out and back to spoiling the ballot. I think she will win, no doubt the smear campaign will start in earnest now. Murdoch has made it clear he wants Phillips, who shouldn’t even be in the party.

It shows how mental the world is that Alastair Campbell was asked for his advice on Iran on a supposedly serious show. It’s unbelievable.

RLB comes with with a clean record which is much harder to criticise or spin and with less experience to resurrect the past. I also Feel if elected she won’t lurch from disaster to disaster for the first two years which created much of the media coverage itself between 2015-2017.

Did you ever think that the Labour Party might not be for you?
Genuine question - Not fishing here or anything.

Well the obvious answer is yes as ideologically I am very much to the left of the Labour Party, but I strongly believe in uniting the left. As Brendan Behan said about Irish republicanism, the second notion is the split and that echoes the divisions on the left that must be healed. This is especially true in a two and a half party system.
Those on the left of the party are willing to embrace people to the right of me in the party in the hope of building a better society. It is interesting to remember that even the most left leaning of Labour MPs never personally attacked Blair when he and the liberals hijacked a socialist party for their own ends, but I think of it happens again, particularly with the likes of the  toxic Phillips, there should be a split.
There is no point in becoming a watered down version of the Tories. Blair proved it and I don’t think it can succeed now. The global zeitgeist tells us that the centre won’t hold. Labour May be a ‘broad church’, but that doesn’t and shouldn’t include liberals.

Deadline passes for Labour Leadership nominations. Thornberry, RLB, Phillips, Starmer and Nandy all in. Lewis out.

Just under three months before we’ll know.

I certainly do, as do many others. It is also very much in the relevant thread, so why read it?

I think people do. It may not interest everybody but that doesn’t mean itnwont be worthy of discussion for the next few weeks.

What is it with this forum and telling posters something isn’t worthy of discussion. It’s always happening.

I find it odd that there is no Irish Politics thread - there is a UK Politics thread, a NI Politicis thread, a US Politics thread yet no thread for domestic issues.
