After reading the article, am I right in deducing the following? It is obvious the FAI will make repayments on the stadium until nearly 2040 not the 2020 when we were to be debt free. The Stadium will be assessed in 2040 and if it is deemed that the refurbishment costs are more than 25% of what a new Stadium would cost, the IRFU can trigger a clause where they can buy the FAI share at just half of its value.
So what ever the FAI pay in repayments for the Stadium over the next 19 years, if the clause is triggered half will go to the IRFU so we the football community are bankrolling the game of rugby. The long term damage of JD keeps revealing itself. Will there be any end to it? No wonder Mr Delaney wanted to keep certain documents secret, again fair dues to Mark Tighe. The deluded JD probably thought a few years ago that a statue should be erected of himself outside Lansdowne Road, maybe serious consideration should be given to a statue of Mark Tighe.

This is incredible. So effectively we could be homeless again less than 20 years?

This goes to show how easily all things financial with our Association bypasses the average fan.
Delaney has effectively bankrupted the association with the sole purpose of having a stadium that could host the 2011 Europa League final and 2020 Euros.

No chance. The Kenny legacy will see us making a fortune. We’ll be qualifying and going deep into tournaments. We’ll have our own place and can ban anyone trying to get in with a rugby shirt!

Totally agree Pipkin. I have followed closely the JD and FAI dealings for many years yet this story which came out on Sunday was new to me. Another of JD deals which were well hidden. In only 19 years the IRFU can force the FAI out of the Aviva and the FAI will continue to try and pay the debt back over the next 19 years but for what. A two year old would have negotiated a better deal for the FAI. Bar the few comments from a few contributors here, there is nothing about it and no one seems to be shocked or interested. But this affects every other facet of Irish Football into the future. A story of Keith Andrews getting his hair shaved off would attract a hundred times more interest for the average football fan. Just shows how fickle the average football fan is and when a character like JD arrives, they are often taken in by his likes.

That is like buying up water rights etc. It might be profitable but in the end people will be absolutely enraged at you. The IRFU will behave decently because people will lose their minds if they bump the national football team off for millions. Won't happen deals will be done.

So the IRFU paid €108m
And the FAI paid €88m. But the IRFU will own it outright. Doesnt make a lot of sense (i know the IRFU own the land).

What I took from Mark Tighes article in The Sunday Times is that the Stadium will be assessed in 2040 and if the refurbishment cost is deemed to be more than 25% of the cost of a new stadium, the IRFU can trigger a clause to buy the FAIs half share at half of its value. This is the first that any of us have heard of this. 19 years time.

True or might get €50 million after putting well over €100 million in... A stadium in Ireland isn't exactly a sellable commodity so you won't exactly have a load of bidders to drive the price up and it's value is not dictated by the market as domestic or commercial properties are.

of this amount they receive, I assume they will then give a sizeable amount back in renting out LR for games after the buy out.

Feck sake, a modern new stadium with modern building standard, surely to f**k it won't need major refurbishment in 2040?
And as said above surely it would be a PR disaster if the IRFU triggered that clause Saying that, what a f**king joke. This man's legacy just keeps getting better and better

It won't need a major refurbishment. Stadium is top of the range other than the North stand!
Only thing you could do is the north stand, which is impossible unless they buy up houses. Or maybe technology has moved on that you could put a roof on that shape of a stadium. A roof would be sweet actually!

It still looks very impressive to me. As good as anything else out there, with the exception of the North stand.
