How much taxpayers' money was wasted on the visit of the Pope to the country? A visit that served a minority of people in the country and for an organisation with little regard for transparency.
Its about time football received the funding that it merits as the most popular sport in the country.

probably for a good reason when you think what old guard in the FAI would have with more cash if they were given it. Other organisations seem to be much more transparent with funding so easier to give. I read a report last year that said for every €1 invested in sport that €2 is generated so it's a no brainer to invest put more money in now knowing it will be managed in a complete different way.

Great news for the 201 people employed by the FAI,16 million is small fry compared to what other sports get .

we are told we soccer has the highest participation rate in the country so this 16 million is small if it keeps the whole thing form falling apart.
Look at the sports capital grants that were just given out the GAA were the main benefactors. So as along as this leads to overall change this is a good thing

Far be it for me to defend the GAA (ugh), but they are a voluntary organisation, catering for (a mostly ) amateur sport and getting their revenues from Ireland only. Not quite the same as a professional, or semi-pro sport, where there is supplementary funding from UEFA and FIFA etc.

Clearly you don’t have a clue about the sports capital grant. The vast majority of it is given out to grass routes level of all sports in the republic so you are comparing like with like. And the GAA got a far bigger proportion than the soccer. And as I said soccer is supposed to be the largest participated sport in the country so to give this money to keep it form falling apart is only small money

Eamonn Sweeney of the Sunday Indo reckons Ross has being playing a blinder with the FAI and gets way too much unfair criticism.

Sweeney also said hurling was an art as opposed to soccer which was merely just a game. It suited him to kick the national side when it was down prior to McClean's heroics in Cardiff. Fook him

That means kinger would be 74 when he retires, on a separate note does kinger have any PRODUCTIVE role with the FAI or is he just collecting his wage untill he hits retirement age.

Refreshing to hear ordinary staff have not been forgotten and Dan McDonnell speak at length on Off The Ball this evening about the need for fresh faces to replace the hierarchy that assisted Delaney instilling fear amongst ordinary staff and whom helped spread the the message of John The Baptist. They have not gone away.
These guys knew more than they let on. Walshe and McGlue the two most prominent still there. Fran Gavin another that has to go acting as the Teddy Bear’s puppet being wheeled out in front of the public championing the problem child on his behalf. Dervan was head hunted by Delaney, lied in front of the Irish public in the oireachtas hearing to protect his buddy and has done way more harm than good in his 11 months in the job with his multiple bemusing statements. A lot done, more to do. But I don’t think the new executives and Board will be played dumb by these for too long. They will know fair quick if they don’t already Good riddance

It's mad that people are happy about the government giving the fai this handout, because if it wasn't for JD's incompetence it wouldn't have been needed in the first place.
I wonder if any media made reference to him recently to the new FAI. They probably can't talk about people who no longer work for them. Seems like he's getting off scott free.
