Yes, I believe it IS a great use of public monies!WinkWink
ok you all know how I feel about the old FAI and it's finances and all that.  https://forum.ybig.ie/fai-finances-thread_topic50574_page1.html?KW=FAI+finances+thread

however, lets have a look at the use of that 16 million.

We (taxpayers in Ireland) used public monies in the amount of 64 Billion, yes, 64 thousand million to bailout the banks when Ireland became bankrupt thanks to the pyramid scheme of construction that was underpinned by liars in government and elsewhere.

so the 16 million here which is to be spent on Irish Football - a thing I love and will always love -  is
roughly 0.025% of what we gave to crooked banks/bankers/gamblers who gambled on bank shares

I think 16 million is a tiny amount compared to what was given by the Government to their friends, the bankers and share gamblers when Ireland itself became bankrupt.

there's an election coming folks. it's hardly surprising that this money is being promised at this time is it. LOLLOL
#cynicalmeAngryAngry

TBH, I think it's the least that can be done.

The other alternative was Armageddon for virtually every LOI club, and temporary expulsion for Ireland from competitions for a period of time. Is that what any football lover here would have preferred?

Platini are you listening
You'd better keep your trophy glistening
Cos we'll be over next year
To drink all your beer,
Walking in an Irish Wonderland.

Considering we (the taxpayer) have had to pay up 22m as a golden handshake to 17 retiring TDs, I think 16m is the least they could do.
Maybe if the politicians and media have have listened and asked questions sooner then it wouldn't have got as bad, but we need to draw a line and move forward and this assurance is a giant step in the right direction and now gives the new FAI the chance to restructure and please god grow the game here from top to bottom

Loose change compared to the shambles of the new childrens hospital.

JD would have that sitting in his swiss bank account considering he never had to spend a penny of his own salary.
I could agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.

On that, is there any rumblings of the man himself and whether or not he will be appearing in a courthouse anytime soon?

State bailout conditional on ex board members being ineligible for new FAI committees. Hence nominations for Jim McConnell, Noel Fitzroy and John Earley will be refused. Nothing stopping P Dempsey and D Cruise.

Well done Shane Ross now it’s time for the rest of the expenses gravy train to be removed from council and also employees who enabled jd’s acts and who did his dirty work .
One City,One County,One Club GUFC will be back.

Cruise & Dempsey should be nowhere near positions of authority

the one thing this has shown up is the chronic underfunding of football as opposed to other sports and it’s criminal that jd and his buddy’s let this happen as well as the mess they left.

the expenses brigade will blow a fuse when they see the conditions on the government loan at last their might be genuine reform and the association goes back to what it should be doing. The loi is vital to bringing young players through as the boat to the uk for 15 to 18 yr olds will be illegal after brexit.

It's hardly that much. Sure in the last few weeks €77m has been given out in sports capital grants.

Including €5.25m towards a new sports centre in the constituency of our esteemed minister for sport and €10m towards the redevelopment of the RDS, because everyone knows that the horsey and rugby sets are short of a few bob.

Too add, some of that €77m tax payers money goes to organisations who finance sports whose participants don't live in the state or contribute a cent to the states tax revenue......
