It's difficult not to get excited by Kone-Doherty.

Only 16, but already has 6 goals from 10 games for Liverpool U18s.

nobody should be getting excited about a young lad in underage football.

Promising start for him alright. Though it's a long road from where he is to senior football - there was another promising Irish lad putting up similar numbers at the same age for Liverpool Under 18s five or six years ago, and he plays his football for Bluebell United now.

Incidentally why isn't Kone-Doherty with the Ireland Under 17s, he's the right age I think? Did Liverpool pull him out of it or is there some other issue?

It's not a recognised international window. Spurs wouldn't release Parrott for the U17s euros we hosted and we also missed a rake of players later that summer for the U19s Euros because clubs wanted players to remain for pre season.

It's why Joe Hodge and Lee O'Connor were playing in midfield together and Jonathan Afolabi started up front.

Missed some important players for that tournament.

https://www.the42.ie/tottenham-starlet-one-of-several-high-profile-players-absent-from-ireland-euros-squad-4721138-Jul2019/

"However, the fact that the tournament does not take place during an official Fifa international window means clubs ultimately have the final say as to whether players can travel and in many instances, they have insisted the individuals in question stay at home for pre-season training.

Mohan said 11 players in total were unavailable, including many who helped Ireland qualify so convincingly.

Among the notable absentees from the squad are Nathan Collins (Stoke), Tom Gaston (Bordeaux), Aaron Bolger (Cardiff), Gavin Bazunu (Man City), Conor Coventry (West Ham), Troy Parrott (Tottenham), Richie O?Farrell (UCD), Luca Connell (Celtic), Will Ferry (Southampton), Will Smallbone (Southampton), Adam Idah (Norwich), Michael Obafemi (Southampton), Aaron Connolly (Brighton), Jordan Doherty (Sheffield United), Jason Knight (Derby) and Glen McAuley (Unattached after leaving Liverpool)."

Why would Liverpool not let him go though, he's playing under 18 football, he's nowhere near the first team squad?

They might not want it affecting their u18 squad which is silly but wouldn't suprise me. He has been playing UEFA youth league too so maybe his participating in that would also be affected.

This kid is hard not to get excited about, still only 16yo plus 4 months with pace to burn, a trait you cannot really coach. What a start he has made to his LFC career. 3 in 6 for Ireland U16s too and he's a winger.

His 7th goal in his last 8 matches ⚽️⚽️ vs Manchester United ⚽️ vs Manchester City ⚽️ vs Blackburn ⚽️⚽️vs Stoke ⚽️ vs Ajax

Both lads have been a bit overshadowed by Ferguson at Brighton, but they are fine prospects in positions where we are short.
