can’t imagine these 16/17 year olds signing pro deals are getting anymore then 300e per week?

the fact that they are on pro contracts gives the club the power to look for a fee for them though, isnt that the point?

Let's say a kid at 16 gets €300 a week. He costs the club €15,600 a year in wages. In one or two years times, Cork will surely be able to get that back in a transfer fee, plus a lot more, if O'Mahony continues his rise....

I dont think it's a good thing that we import English players on loan on a mass level though. Surely that is just taking up spaces on LOI teams that should be filled by Irish players.
We need to enforce a 'Buy Irish' policy with all LOI teams lol Tongue

What do you suggest LOI sides do this season then?
There’s obviously a talent deficit in the league this season to last so what’s the answer

Yeap but the jeopardy is around how many kids costing €16k per year can you afford who dont end up making it. Not all of them will break into your first team or receive big money offers.

Well if you don't think a 16 or 17 year old is or soon will be good enough for your first team then how would you ever envisage the same player attracting a big money offer for you? And if the lad is capable of neither then why offer them a contract at all? They're getting a pro contract to play for your first team firstly. The big money comes after. I don't see the jeopardy here outside of the normal levels involved in considering any player.

Aren't the Curtis brothers 16/17? A long-term contract by LoI standards would bring them up to 19/20, where they could leave for free. The article is talking about the players who have been playing in the Premier division for the last year or 2, not one's signing their first pro contracts.

I'd say even the most highly rated one's aren't earning that. I know of 1 with Pats who was getting 200 cash in hand last season.

Drogheda getting Roughan in on loan Cassidy going to Bohs. This will very much bring young Irish players backs to the LOI and it will be of benefit to us and the Leagues overall standard. Long and Roughan are two very good additions for Drogheda by there standards. Both lads have featured at League 1 level for Lincoln already. Two talents.

I see that Cathal Heffernan was shown wearing a Bayer Leverkusen kit. Pic posted by his management company.  Reported in the Examiner.
Still only 16, he turns 17 in April.
Looks like another top youngster heading abroad.

Was that not from last summer when he was on trial there? He was also on trial at Milan, Juve, Atalanta and Roma then too.

Nevermind, it was Sam Curtis I was thinking of. He also had trials with Roma and Bayern then too.

As did Kevin Zefi's cousin Justin Ferizaj.

Cathal Heffernan now linked with a move to AC Milan! Interesting times ahead for the lad. Hopefully Cork City get a decent fee for him.
