Emakhu won't be joining up until after the first game and Johnny Kenny will only be joining up after the first game if he's not needed for the U21s.

Gk - we have bazunu, Travers and Kelleher all of which have top ceilings. Competition in this area will see us ok for years.

Defenders - O'Shea, Omobamidele, Collins look like fantastic prospects with Scales, Dunne also making strides. Wing backs looks like it could be an issue a little further down the line

Midfield - knight and Smallbone (who was looking like breaking through before injury) seem to be the best hope for a consistent Premier league performer.

Attack - usual suspects in Connolly, parrott and idah. But all are a ways away from being consistent premier league performers.

My top 3 best prospects would be

1. O'shea
2. Kelleher
3. Collins

Wing backs there's McNamara at Millwall is still only 22 and Kioso 22 looks a ringer at L1 level. Ebosele is an obvious candidate too.
LWB we are light but Scales and Bagan are very welcome editions Adaramola is one at Palace who is very highly touted. We have a few years grace with Coleman/Doherty around touchwood.

We have a large quantity of young midfielders but if any of them will kick on time will tell. Doyle Hayes at Hibs and Taylor/Coventry are getting regular minutes at Championship level. Was also delighted to see Johansson get minutes finally the weekend. I'd include Knight but he's very much broken into the senior squad.

Young attackers particularly in England do take a bit longer to come up to their potential be it goalscoring or whatever else. Parrott is doing very well and is looking like the type of player that might be as much a playmaker as he is a goalscorer. Hopefully he gets another goal soon now to keep ticking over.

Just on goalkeepers there can't be many nations in Europe outside the bigger ones of course with as much goalkeeping talent as we have. Incredible to have the 3 of them not to mention Dan Rose the first non German born keeper to sign for the  academy of the Harvard of goalkeepers Schalke. We could find ourselves in a insane situation in 5/6 years time.

James Abankwah from Pats has been called up the u19s Ireland squad. I think this lad will have his own thread in a couple of years. Currently he is 17 but looks v comfortable operating at LOI Premier level. A strong central defender but with the potential to have a good career

Haven't seen Charlie McCann named in any squads lately, any update on him.

Also, any update on Joe Hodge, is he still injured?

Good chance he probably is still injured. Was still out when Wolves signed him and that was nearly 5 weeks ago.

Of the 19s Harry Vaughan is the most eye catching. He will go under the radar but is playing for Oldham at 17 and scored the other day. Would be a nice addition if he stuck with us long term.

In general there's proper potential in that 19s squad. Any idea where Cian Coleman of Leeds is? Noticed he wasn't in the squad.

McCann is too old for the Under 19s and not good considered good enough for the Under 21s. He'll be under 21 again for the next campaign though. A few of the 2002 lads falling into that gap between Under 19s and Under 21s at the moment - Oko-flex is another in the same boat. It's probably been said before but having an Under 20 squad like England have would be useful - would contain a mix of domestic and overseas players who are just outside the Under 21 squad which is hard to get into these days.

Hodge is still injured as far as I know. Again though, plenty of competition in central midfield at Under 21 level even when he is fit and he's too old for the Under 19s.

Coleman only just 17, was in Under-18 squad last month

Gilsenan in U19, squad does this indicate he has committed to us or is leaning towards us??

It doesn't mean anything. Noss and Garcia-McNulty have made noncommittal comments. Darragh Burns has vacillated between us and NI. We need to be realistic about these things.

I'm surprised he's 18. I would've thought he's younger.

Doesnt mean anything, hes been with Australia u17s for one camp just prior to Covid and they've had/have very strict International travel restrictions having closed their boarders for the best part of 18 months. They're only beginning to allow fully vaccinated visitors into the country again from November.

Their u17s and u20s also dont have any fixtures any time soon.

So who knows where he stands?

Personally if I was the kid, id be hedging my bets with Australia. They've a weak pool of players and are almost guaranteed a spot in the World Cup every time as well as the Asian Cup.

It does mean something. It means he's willing to travel, train and play for Ireland. That's something. For now.

"For now".

Exactly. It means nothing.

But it clearly does mean something. He may not be 100% committed (and you don't even know, you just speculate) but he is clearly interested enough to travel, train and play for Ireland. Which is something.

If he had no interest why would he bother? To go back to Australia with his tail between his legs?

It means about as much as it did when Patrick Bamford, Declan Rice and Jack Grealish played for us underage.

Or when Shane Duffy, James McClean and Darragh Burns played for NI.

Gilsenan's eligible for Australia and England. We don't know his reasons for joining this camp.

There's a difference between declaring for a country and linking up for a training camp.

The sooner people understand that, the less uproar there'll be over future Grealish's.

Exactly. Even if he plays for us next month in the Qualifiers he can still switch as he hasnt played competitively for Australia yet either.
