Stewart Downing: West Ham boss Slaven Bilic wanted winger to stayWest Ham manager Slaven Bilic says he did not want Stewart Downing to leave the Hammers and that he was counting on the winger "big time" for next season. England international Downing, 30, has rejoined hometown club Middlesbrough on a four-year deal. "I didn't want him to go, he's a quality English player and I know how hard it is to get the quality ones," said Bilic. "Of course I rate him, I tried to persuade him to stay with us." Middlesbrough-born Downing spent two seasons at Upton Park, making 74 appearances and scoring seven goals for the Hammers. Capped 35 times by England, Downing left the Riverside for Aston Villa in July 2009, before moving to Liverpool. |

Boro top of the league after their 2 0 win at Ipswich last night. Brighton will go back top if they beat Charlton today.

Sheer absolute f**kin madness this is.
Something has been wrong for about 2 months at this stage and looks to have finally exploded during the week. Hard to see where boro go from here but it seems certain that karanka has walked. Nigel Pearson and David Moyes seem to be frontrunners but would not be shocked if Gibson put Agnew and Woodgate in charge for the rest of the season |

I find it bizarre how poor Boro have been. There is a common refrain that Boro lack attacking quality, but between Negredo, Stuani, Gaston, and Traore they should be scoring far more regularly. De Roon is another decent player, and when played in the right position Downing is a threat.
I have wondered if it is entirely down to a fear of being beaten which has scuppered Boro this season?
