FIFA confirm if Iran win 1-0 and Nigeria lose 1-0 the 2nd and 3rd positions will be decided on a coin-toss as the points, goal difference, goals for and goals against will all be identical.

First time ever it will happen in a WC if the situation arises.

Might be the first time to decide who goes through or not, but a cointoss was used to decide who was 2nd/3rd between ourselves and the Dutch in Italia 90

Sepp is from the same era as granddad in Only Fools. Keep an eye for a double-headed coin.

If you look up Wikipedia about 1990 world cup, its mad, there was every chance of you qualifying if you finished 3rd in the group.
Ridiculous when you look back on it.

Given that both Iran & Nigeria have both traditionally adopted an ultra cautious defensive system and both struggle for goals, there is every real chance that the results required for this coin toss to occur (Iran to win 1-0 and Nigeria to lose 0-1) could actually happen!
I'd prefer they got the two teams together in the Amazon Jungle, chopped all their legs off and let them have a penalty shoot-out. Would be fairer.

Will be the same in France I presume with 24 teams in 2016.

Belgium got to the semi in 86 and finished third in their group there.

I really hope for Euro 2016 they copy the format from Spain '82. Six groups, top two in each group go through. Four groups of three in the second stage, winners of each group go through to the Semi's.

Do you think third place teams in the group going through is better? Going from 24-12-4 is better than 24-16-8-4 in my opinion.

Over 100,000 Argies in Porto Alegre this afternoon.

Hope we see a Brazil -v- Argentina final.

Here's the Argentine players and families singing a song in training.

♪♫Brazil, tell me how it feels to have daddy in your house, I swear even as the years go by, we'll never let you forget how Diego dribbled and Caniggia stuck the needle in, and you've been crying since Italia90 until today. You'll see Messi bring the cup home and of course Maradona is greater than Pele.♪♫
