Our representative Jim Neary visited Patrick's lonely grave this month - hopefully 2015 will bring a lasting memorial to a forgotten legend.

Thanks to Cllr Ciaran Cuffe of Dublin City Council who is tabling a motion to the council with the idea of a plaque to be placed on the house Patrick was reared in, just off Jones Road close to Croke Park. - fingers crossed!!

Thanks to current coach at PNE and ex Ireland goalkeeper Alan Kelly Jnr who is donating a shirt for this project.

The National Football Museum in England have agreed to put Patrick's international cap from a century ago on display in their museum as well as a piece on Patrick's story/career and our project.

Golfers Tony Jacklin(former Ryder cup captain) and Phil Mickelson have agreed to sign a donated golf top.

Going well as part of the event we are auctioning our first tranche of signed shirts:

Email auctions@pocfund.com to place bids for signed shirts / memorabilia items. Please state "Hillsborough" along with chosen item(s) in subject of email. Highest bids will be updated every four hours from midday to midnight. Current reserves are €75(£50) for signed shirts and €50(£35) for Samuel Eto'o signed CL 50th Anniversary 2006 Final book.

Yesterday at the PFA HQ in Manchester the organisation kindly donated £1,000.00 to the restoration of Patrick's Grave in London.
Mike O'Connell and his wife Sue are pictured with CEO Gordon Taylor and former United Captain Martin Buchan.

The POCMF have a fundraising event on April 10th at the Irish World Heritage Centre in Manchester.

This event commemorates Patrick O'Connell's centenary anniversary(1915) the first Irishman to play for and captain Man United.
Compere on the night will be Alan Keegan 'the voice of Old Trafford' and will see former players from United & City attending as well as historians and a auction of donated signed memorabilia.

FC Barcelona have now endorsed the project and will be making a press statement on Friday about what is happening at Hillsborough on Saturday.

Wednesdayite will kindly make a donation of £1,000.00 to the restoration of Patrick's grave on Saturday at 2:30 at the Wednesday v Boro match.

Thanks to Paul Holmes and Peter Shaw of Wednesdayite for their help and support throught out the last number of months.

 

As part of their support for the project Barca have donated a signed squad shirt and have sent the jersey to Hillsborough it arrived on Monday.

The shirt will be part of the presentation on Saturday and will be carried onto the pitch by ex Owl Mel Sterland.

 

All monies raised go to the restoration of Patrick O'Connell's grave -all bids welcome here:
