People like O'Driscoll and Robbie Keane should be universally appreciated in this country. The media might be going a bit OTT but that's not O'Driscolls fault. He deserves the accolades. He comes across as a modest fella and will probably be happy when the fuss dies down.

No matter what Robbie Keane does it's a sad fact that he'll never be appreciated or respected in the same regard as O'Driscoll among the general public here. I've had countless arguments with gobsh*tes who love to put him down. I'm dreading the day he retires. He epitomizes class. A great captain who scored against the best teams in world football.

Even the English despite their gutter tabloid press don't knock their record scorer Charlton to the extent we do in this country. They seem to show more appreciation than we do

Bobby Charlton won a World Cup.
Slight difference.

Also I would have BOD streets ahead of Robbie.

I agree with everything you see. Both O'Driscoll and Keane are amongst the best sports personalities to come out of this country. Both are great role models. With O'Driscoll he is highly respected by the sporting public in general were as Keane gets unwarranted abuse and criticism for been Robbie. It's when he retires that people will realise how much the Irish team relied on him. The lad owes us nothing and could of retired after the Euros but has soldiered on and this should be commended.

I'm not really a rugby fan but I hope Ireland win today with a performance that would be fitting for Brian O'Driscoll's last game in an Irish shirt.

That's a bit over the top there lad. Lay off the personal abuse and debate with the lad if you have an issue with what he said

So Robbie Keane who was equally as vital to the the country's national football team as O'Droliscoll was the the rugby one doesn't deserve to held in the same regard. Why because he's not world class?!

The fact he's not world class makes his fantastic scoring record all the more impressive.
Wings? They're only the band The Beatles could have been.

Whatever about me that's very harsh on Keane. I'd expect that from one of the many gobsh*tes in this country that love knocking him

You were having a dig at Keane with that statement. Keane's achievement as a record scorer deserves the same recognition as O'Driscoll being one of our greatest ever sportsmen. That was my point. Keane has been as vital for us as O'Driscoll was for the rugby team.
Wings? They're only the band The Beatles could have been.

Don't think you compare Keane and O'Driscoll, apples and oranges. Just my two cents on the matter, a lower percentage of the global population play rugby so O'Driscoll would have a greater probability of being remembered as one of the greatest in the world than Keane would be in football.

Just for example from figures I could find,
IRB state that 4,504,188 play organised rugby in the world, Fifa state 265,000,000.* The probability of O'Driscoll being in the top 30 in rugby is 0.0006661% while for Keane to make the top 30 in football is 0.00001132%. Greater number of football players thus harder to be known as one of the greatest.

* these figures include non-pros but I imagine the outcomes would be somewhat similar.

I am big fan of Robbie, can't understand Irish clowns putting him down. We'll only know how good he was for us when he's gone.

However,if you talk to people who have a good interest across different sports I think most would agree BOD is streets ahead of Robbie on a world stage.
