Dublin says farewell to a sporting legend today, arguably Ireland's most talented sportsman ever.

most talented sportsman ever? go way ta f**k...how can you compare his achievements and/or talent with other athletes???

I would say he joins a long list of sporting heroes the country has produced.

It's been a joy to watch his sublime skill on a rugby field for the past 15 years or so. A real ambassador for his sport and country. He's had his fair share of injuries but never shirked a challenge and was always prepared to get in and do the dirty work when required.
You can see from his displays this season that he's made the right decision to retire at the end of it.
It would be great to see him sign off with a try today.
I could agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.

I'm no rugger fan (jump on bandwagon for 6 nations) but there is no doubt that o'Driscoll is one of the most talented sportsman we have ever produced . Played his whole career at the highest level, consistently performed, respected by the best teams in the world and at his peak would have walked into any team in the world.

Not a rugby fan, would watch games here and there. But you would wonder why he didn't wait for one more year when there is a World Cup next year.

Not bothered about rugby but Good luck to him.
As SHH says he would've walked into any team in the world.World class in his position and was excellent defensively when he was tackling. To continue on playing after getting a knee in the head (I think) causing concussion in the England game showed what a brave player he was.
Wings? They're only the band The Beatles could have been.

Agreed but saying he is arguably the greatest sportsman this country ever produced is doing all other sporting heroes an injustice.

Anyway best of luck to him today. I hope he bags a rake of trys...just to get up phillyk's nose

But I don't think it does, this guy reached the very peak of the game, he couldn't have went any higher . We have very few sportsmen who can claim that. Certainly there are other notable candidates but BOD would be hard to beat.

Our greatest ever sports person and a great fella to boot, Rugby is one of the toughest sports in the world and to be playing in his 140th game is some achievement given all the knocks and concussions the guy has had and to keep coming back when people say he is finished. European, Triple Crown and Grand Slam Winner the only thing that eluded him was the World Cup.
Del Boy: You do know what a pyscopath is dont you Grandad

Grandad: Of course i know what a Pyscopath is, its a fella who dresses up in womens clothes.

Legend

Anytime you read or see an interview with a current or former All Black and they're asked is there any player the would've like to play with most of them say O'Driscoll
Eamonn Dunphy:"I'll tell you who wrote it, Rod Liddle, he's the guy who ran away and left his wife for a young one".

Bill O'Herlihy: Ah ye can't be saying that now Eamonn

my initial post was about talent. Whilst he is probably in the top 30 most talented rugby players ever and probably the greatest player in irish rugby history saying he's the most talented sportsman in irish sport is incomparable. Katie Taylor whilst not a man, Roy Keane, Robbie Keane and Sonia O'Sullivan not a man either to name a few reached the top in their respective sports, are immensely talented but are equally incomparable to each other.
