Apologies lads it’s tomorrow UEFA are due to make an announcement on where Gibraltar will play their home games. Crisc were told st their meeting in Dublin last week and it’s in today’s star as well. the Swiss are being blamed for the delay.

This was yesterday. Now someone on here is telling us it will be next Tuesday. Which paper or website claims this will be announced next Tuesday.

At this stage, no statement or heads up from anyone in Dublin or Zurich is appauling to say the least.

I've no doubt he posted it in good faith but I said as soon as gufct posted that, that it was incorrect info.

It is appalling at this stage but it's UEFA and Gib FA that are taking the p1ss.

Here's something to ponder on.. doing a few numbers. next Tuesday is the 22nd January. -

January 22nd to  January 31st = 9 days.

February = 28 days

March 23rd - 23 days

Total 60 days.. the 60 day rule for announcing a venue is being applied by UEFA themselves.

UEFA rule is 120 day notice The host association selects the venue for each match from the corresponding list of proposed stadiums and announces it to the UEFA administration at least 120 days before the match in question.

21.03 When fixing a venue, the host association must take into account the length of the journey to be undertaken by the visiting team. In principle, the venue for a match must be no more than a 90-minute bus drive from the nearest international airport with daily flights from/to other European cities.

21.04 Any objection by a visiting association regarding a selected venue must be communicated to the UEFA administration, with the host association in copy, within three days of the venue being confirmed by UEFA. The UEFA administration will take a final decision, confirming the venue or requesting that the host association propose another in accordance with these regulations.  WAS THIS DONE AT THE DRAW?

Above rules from Uefa. To the best of my knowledge there is a minimum/maximum number of days for an association to announce a venue. I stand corrected but the minimum number of days is 60.

This might be all hypothetical as UEFA can over rule any decision.

I stand corrected but the maximum number of days is 60.- typo - apologies.Shocked

There's nothing about 60 days in that regulation you posted. It's at least 120 days, not at most. That's the minimum. 60 is less than that so that makes no sense.

I'm sure they have options in UEFA to apply what rule they want. I just brought the number of days to everyone's attention which will be 60 days from the game next Tuesday. Lets see what they announce next Tuesday, and then ask them to clarify their position.

Either way, people who have booked flights to Spain will have a long drive and another overnight expense possibly if it's switched to Faro.

The work on the stadium etc. should have been discussed and agreed long before the draw in December imo.

If it is moved to Faro, would it definitely be a 20:45 kick off time? I'm landing in Gibraltar at 12 on match day, there would definitely be enough time to get to Faro.

Anyone else landing in Gibraltar at 12 on the Saturday?

Would it be our first game in Africa?

I'm not sure whether to take the Tangiers post seriously or not....but it is only a ferry across from Spain and even from Malaga airport would be quicker to get to than Faro

Ferry every two hours from Tarifa to Tangier Town with FRS. That's the one to get - there's a free bus transfer by FRS from Algeciras to Tarifa (about 30 minutes) to get the boat to Tangier old town. The boats from Algeciras go to Tangier Med Port, which is like 50km from Tangier, and a pain in the hole to get to and from, so don't get those.

Yeah. It's best avoided.

There are two options, really: Algeciras / Gib --> Tangier Med Port, or Tarifa --> Tangier Ville.

In the first, you then need to get from Tangier Med Port to Tangier town, which is like 50km, and you have to get a bus or train from the port to Tangier town, which is not free, and takes time.

In the second, you can either drive your hire car to Tarifa and park it up there (assuming you have a hire care of course), or alternatively you can get the free transfer bus from Algeciras down to Tarifa, which is about 22km away from Algeciras.

The Tarifa --> Tangier Ville option is preferable, I think.
