The Futsal Finals are taking place at Waterford IT this week.
Also Collingwood Cup 11-a-side Qualifiers tomorrow for a reduced three day tournament at Queens Univ, Upper Malone 1st week in February. Wednesday 24th January NUI Galway v Dublin City University, Dangan 14:00 NUI Galway soccer club page https://clubs.nuigalway.ie/clubProfile.php?id=MzMy University Limerick v Maynooth University, UL 4G pitches 14:00 Great viewing from the restaurant overlooking pitches. Trinity College Dublin University v Royal College of Surgeons, College Park Dublin 2 ko 14:00 Kind of a big deal, most central football venue in Dublin. Old venue hosting a match in an old competition. Excellent viewing through the railings on Nassau street. (if you have ever viewed some of the sports on the Trinity campus from Nassau St. do let the relevant sports club know so they can add your contribution to the overall attendance figures).

Have played against Trinity a few times in college football and that pitch is up there with the worst I've played on, location aside.
What's the deal with the playoff? This will be my first year not playing Collingwood over the last few years and there were never playoffs before. Edited by The Huntacha - 23 Jan 2018 at 9:48pm |

This is the first year for them.
They are called Qualifying Round and the Collingwood Cup week is reduced to 3 days. Previously 4 days and 5 days before that. Perhaps each hosting University/College, the participating teams or both felt there was too much pressure to fit it all in. In recent years, the start dates for the Collingwood Cup were changed to cater for the changing dates of the start of the SSE Airtricity League season. Availability of players is mentioned in Mondays The Herald Striker Maynooth Univ. "manager Garrett Dodrill is anxious to have a full strength squad available ' I'm hoping to have everyone available but unfortunately with the League of Ireland clubs back in pre-season training and playing friendly games the picture regarding our players attached to senior clubs isn't clear yet'". The springtime Collingwood Cup put a hole in some of UCD's promotion campaigns during the winter seasons of the early nineties and before. Players didn't recover from the week long tournament at a critical point of the season.

Used to enjoy playing in Trinity! Far more people watching than I'd be used to and I always thought the ground was in fine state

I've mostly played on it in the winter/spring months so that wouldn't have helped it. Great venue for a game though.
No sympathy for UCD, some heartbreaking defeats to them over the last couple of years Edited by The Huntacha - 24 Jan 2018 at 10:01am |

Rustlers CUFL Premier Division 1/4 Final Playoffs
UCD 12:0 Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa Cork Jay Mclelland (2), Georgie Kelly (3), Gary O'Neill, Yousef 'Yoyo' Mahdy (2), Daire O'Connor, Liam Scales, Timmy Molloy, Gareth Coughlan (All scorers also UCD AFC) A modern record breaking score for UCD put in context that Stephen Henderson Manager of SSE Airtricity League outfit Cobh Ramblers refused permission/advised that 4 of CSN Players shouldn't play in the game on Tuesday 30th Jan. Cobh Ramblers played a friendly on Wednesday. The outcome score can reflect badly that, even at last eight Premier Division, this League still has to settle down and hasn't matured yet. So potential followers don't have to take an interest for a few more years, when the detail and circumstances are different. IT Carlow 3:0 DIT Ethan O'Neill, Ciaran O'Reilly, Jonny Bonner UCC 2:0 Maynooth University Garan Manley (UCC/UCC) 9', David Dalton (UCC/UCC) 40'; Conor Delahunty 2nd half. Mark Slater (Maynooth Univ/Wexford FC) hit the post 80'. DCU 2:1 Univ Limerick Alan O'Sullivan (2) (Warrenpoint FC, NIR) I didn't get the UL scorer. Collingwood Cup 1st Round Qualifiers
Trinity College Dublin University 4:1 Royal College of Surgeons Wasn't played at College Park, I heard that at a music festival held over the summer the grass was covered over but hasn't recovered and the pitch may have to be relaid. University Limerick 1:2 Maynooth University NUI Galway 0:1 Dublin City University Collingwood Cup Queens University Upper Malone Mon 05th - Wed 07th Feb RUSTLERS Collingwood Cup
The First round loser compete in the Spillane Cup in Dublin later in February, atm there's no sign of the 2nd rd. 'shield' competition the Farquhar Cup, If it is discontinued it'll be a blow to traditionalists and Shrek-lovers combined. When UCD compete abroad they ensure to play clubs and sides represented of the local community. Community-focused sides in the SSE Airtricity League (In 2018 Shamrock Rovers in Portugal and Dundalk FC in Spain) don't do the same. The plug converter is packed and I'm looking forward to the trip. I'm make Monday all day at least. |

Frost overnight distrupted some the start times for the opening day. But all matches were completed with Maynooth Univ. v UCD kicking up at 16:30.
Ulster Univ 1:5 DCU UCC 7:0 Mary's Immaculate College Queens Univ 4:3 Trinity College The closest result of the day, Queens went 3-0 up but in a hectic finale Trinity got one back to 3-2, Queens got one more before it finished 4-3. Maynooth Univ 0-3 UCD A strong starting line up and Dair O'Connor hit the crossbar before Georgie Kelly 2 and O'Connor helped keep UCD in control. Collingwood Cup Final Queens University v UCD, Queens Sport ko 14:30 FAIreland Facebook page promise to stream the Final live Eamon Fyfe of Queens scored a hat-trick in 4-3 against Trinity and two yesterday in 4-3 win against UCC. Daire Rooney scored in each game and Matt Hughes got Queens other goal yesterday. Queens Univ AFC is a club in it's own right in the Irish League Premier Intermediate Division. (I think Fyfe has played Gaelic Football in the Sigerson Cup for Queens Univ and All-Ireland for Antrim). While QU AFC have Students and Graduates, for the Collingwood the players have to be part of the University. For their part UCD are fielding a strong SSE Airtricity League side. UCD striker Georgie Kelly has scored three goals in his two games with Daire O'Connor and Liam Scales getting the other goals. In the last two days UCD played two games on a beautiful 4G Astro, Queens played their games on grass. The Final is expected to be on the grass pitch.
