Yeah PM, it looks a little like that. Mick's never talked him up when asked about other English-born players.
Which I'm surprised at, given presumably Mick will be wanting to play a more expansive style than the previous regime - with more room for the Hoolahan/Crowley type players.

Odd quote from Mick:
And finally, what of Willem II midfielder Dan Crowley, who recently declared for the Irish side having previously represented England at underage level? “He took his time to make his mind up. Slightly took his time, so that’s why he was not considered with me.” https://www.the42.ie/mick-mccarthy-on-alan-judge-4542896-Mar2019/ Some bad blood somewhere? |

You asked if I'd be anyone from history, fact or fiction, dead or alive:
I said "I'd be Tony Cascarino, circa 1995" |

Mick will catch some flak for that comment because Crowley is the greatest player that hasn't yet kicked a senior ball for Ireland, but that's exactly the attitude we need from management going forward. I dearly hope Kenny shares the same outlook. Crowley will get his chance but he and others will know there may be a price for shilly-shallying and interminable English ambition. We defer to the dawdling of chancers and dance jigs when they turn green. It's f**king degrading. MON's stance was practically nurturing of certain player's indecision. Mick's is 'be committed or be omitted'. Music to my ears, personally. There's a message there and I hope any dual eligible hopefuls get strong wind of it. I also enjoyed his "chuck it in the Liffey" remark about Rice-a-Noni's young player of the year award. The man has genuine pride. A crucial commodity in international football. / If that's the case then surely Rice should have been told where to go. As should Bamford now. |

Did he take his time? He declared before Mick even got the job... You certainly couldn't say the same about Bamford or Redmond, who Mick would have been all too happy to bring in straight away if they had made themselves available... It's an uncannily O'Neill-esque statement.

Strange statement to make,I heard the lad made his intentions clear last year, that he wanted to play for Ireland and from what im hearing he is 100% committed .

So committed, that he flip-flopped between English and Irish underage teams for four years, then waited a further three before declaring.

He's a fresh case study in pi*s extraction. Crowley, at 21, looks like Kevin Moran in comparison. |

as pointed out, seems odd he would cite Crowley being slow to commit but seems to have unlimited time for Redmond who appears to be unwilling..

Wouldn't lose sleep over Mick's thoughts on Crowley. He's more of a Kenny player anyway, so doubt Dan will get more than cameo role over next over next 18 months.
