Delighted for him. Can scarcely remember a player who's deserved a goal more for their overall performances.

John Egan has looked poor last few games. Just sent off . Got turned by the centre forward again and really caught for pace. He was dodgy against villa too . Doesn’t impress me greatly and he seems to have a mistake in him always. Hope I’m wrong but he will never be a top class option for Ireland .

Doesn't make the bench today. Not a huge surprise after he came down heavy on the knee last day.
Hopefully just a short-term omission. |

He's the type of player who shouldn't be massively affected by a loss of athleticism alright, so not surprising that Sheffield have shown faith in him. Wouldn't be surprised to see him drop a bit deeper for them next year, playing as an out-and-out attacking midfielder rather than as a 2nd striker.

Good news for Ireland. There aren't that many Premiership strikers given contracts well into their thirties but we now have two of them in McGoldrick and Long.

McGoldrick is a lovely player. He’s actually giving us a very un Irish style when he dropping deep to make play. We’ve rarely had that before, perhaps only when Keane was starting out.
The question for us and Sheffield United remains: where do the goals come from? If McGoldrick is making things happen and getting us up the pitch, is he creating for two goal scoring wide players? Or a goal scoring partner? If he’s in a 3-5-2, we have the option of Connolly, Robinson, or Maguire up with him. 4-3-3 it’s one of McClean, Robinson, Maguire, Connolly, or Curtis. He’s only part of the equation at this stage. Interestingly enough, Parrott has come through at Spurs in the playmaking #9 role in the image of Kane. He could do the same for us
