That said, totally agree with the above, he's grown into a very grumpy man, and defintiely wouldn't want him managing any team I have an interest it. Don't even like seeing him on Sky these days.

As I said just seen the clip and didn't look up who the doc maker was. It was a good spot all the same and maybe a question another sports reporter might avoid especially in Keane's company.

The interviewer was the maker of this and a few other documentaries, Gabriel Clarke a stalwart if itv’s football coverage since the late 80s early 90s.

Keane hates controversy and attention.

bump Watched a small clip of Keane picking out his best United team for this doc and surprised it wasn't picked up on from reading this thread when it first aired. A couple of the players he picked seemed to be more for the fact they fell out/had issues or were pro/anti Ferguson in some way rather than their ability. Brilliant spot by whoever the interviewer was in highlighting that to Keane's reaction of non-surprise when he was questioned about it. Ince over Scholes ffs The Parker over Neville is more excusable to be fair but I can't help but think it's because Neville was very close to Ferguson, Keane went for Parker. Keane has a stubborness and begrudging/chip on his shoulder especially in his punditry (England's WC 2018 coverage) but there's also a pettiness in him. Even Nani's arguably harsh sending off against Real in the CL in 2013, I couldn't imagine Keane thinking it was a red if it happened in any other circumstances than a team that was managed by Ferguson. He wanted to stick the boot in imo. I can't see Keane ever being successful in management and I hope he never manages Ireland tbh. A world class player but a petty, bitter and begrudging sod.

I stand corrected on the damage done to Hagaland. But my point still stands ... he tried to do serious damage to a fellow player and after all these years he still shows zero remorse. He's part of the Irish set up and our kids look up to this tramp.

Maybe but in no way at all did it help haalands career. That tackle was a complete disgrace and to intentionally do it and not show any remorse portrays him as a complete scumbag.

He wasnt too honest avout a couple of questions though was he? He was asked best manager he played under and said "without a shadow of a doubt Brian Clough". Clough was one of the best managers out there but by the time Keane played for him he had become a joke. He was an alvoholic and got the team relegated.
Much to admire in Roy Keane but IMO he is a bit of a walking contradiction and has somehow portrayed himself in the media as the standard bearer for professionalism when in reality he was far from it. Interesting how Fergie said he was becoming too big for his boots and assuming managerial duties in the dressing room. This ring a bell for Ireland circa 200-2002 namely Saipan? Keane said it was his job as captain. The captains job is not dictating to the manager preparations the team shoupd make or whej the keepers should sit out a training game. Its my opinion (for what its worth) that keane bought into his own self importance and felt he was the team and he was in vharge. Maybe not in name but in reality. He was making demands and exceeding his brief. Evennthoughbhe may have been correct on many things he did not act in a professional way. People also are quick tonforget that he initially had walkednout of the world cup with healy being called up before being persuaded by mick byrne. I also find it a bit cringeworthy that some people defend him no matter how bad his behaviour is or was. Its almost as ifbhe has brainwashed people into buying into his mentality. Sure there are many good things but some people cant see any fault with the man. |

he was a bit churlish in the programme i though although it was interesting to hear his view on him being shafted out of united
the animosity between him and Ferguson is now irreparable and much worse than anything between him and Mick his honesty is refreshing though |
