Better performance than the Holland game. Probably his best for Ireland, absolutely immense.

We'll probably not see days like it again in our lifetimes. Going toe to toe with the top teams. They look terrified of keane.
Yes terrified.
Remember late in the game v Holland he broke and ran 50 yards with the ball to relief pressure. Three Dutch defenders including Stam just there looking at him afraid to tackle him.

Did the same against Portugal a few times. As soon as Given caught the ball, he was already on his way.

I’m not sure what the issue is?

Keane is box office - people want to watch him on the tv and people like hear him being talked about. If they didn’t, the media wouldn’t be giving him the coverage.

He’s very entertaining to watch, whether you like him or not.

As a player, an absolute class act. Best Irish player I’ve seen in the flesh, he had absolutely everything. McGrath was an absolute class act, but for me it’s Keane every day

God only knows when we’ll see the likes of quality players like Keane and McGrath again

you are right people are interested but there is no journalistic value in any of the coverage of the last few days.  It’s just lowest common dominator stuff, click bait and fueled by feedback of what the readers/viewers etc want.  But none of those at balls or Newstalk or pundit arena etc should pretend they are journalists when rehashing stuff just because he is 50.

As I said they are behaving like fan boys not journalists.  In the coverage was any of it critical, not one bit.

If you are looking at performances for Ireland McGrath wins hands down.  Keane mentioned his performance in 1994 and against Portugal and Holland in 2001.  There was 4-5 years there when his performances were average enough compared to what he was doing at Utd.  He didn’t light up the 98 campaign or the 2000 campaign.  Unreal for 2002 campaign.

just to add I am far from anti Keane and think he was an amazing player.  Sychophantic pieces by lads pretending to be journalists should be called out for what they are.

Not having McGrath over Keane (and I absolutely loved McGrath).

Silly argument probably, both class acts.

But going back to Keane post football career - he’s absolutely box office on the tv so he’ll always be written about in the media

What's with the McGrath Keane comparison? They were different type of players.

They were two of the very few genuine world class players we ever produced.

I do agree with Baldrick that McGrath performed better and more often than Keane in an Ireland shirt. That's not mean't as a criticism of Keane either when it comes to his own record on the pitch for Ireland.
Wings? They're only the band The Beatles could have been.
