Knowing he had a debilitating hip injury and being barely able to walk the day after matches didn’t stop Keane from signing and taking a wage from Celtic so it’s harsh to criticise Henderson for wanting to play in a European Championship when not 100% fit. Certainly don’t think Strachan signed Keane for his positive impact on team moral.

Apparently Keane commented before the England v Scotland game that Harry Kane "isn’t the type of Captain you need when things aren’t going well." Yeah, he's liable to storm out and leave his country in the lurch at anytime. You know, if the training pitches aren't very good or there aren't enough footballs, that kind of thing.... |

Yes Keane said the same in that video when he was in the car with Micah Richards
Kane doesn’t dig his team mates out when they aren’t pulling their weight for the team, this is only problem with him, he doesn’t think he’s captain material Hard to argue really

In public. What does Keane know about what happens behind the scenes? Soon after Southgate took over England, he took the squad to a Royal Marines boot camp. One of the things he was looking for was leadership ability. And afterwards, when he asked the Instructors who they'd choose, every single one nominated Kane as his first pick - he was head and shoulders above the rest: Either way, Kane would never walk out on his teammates, nor duck out of a trip to Iran for a vital qualifier because he wanted to rest for a club game the following weekend.. Oh and btw, if Kane was pretty much anonymous last night, that could be because it was his 60th game of the season - 50+ plus of them carrying a mediocre Spurs team to 7th place, when without him and Son, they might have finished 17th.

No chance Terri comments on this if Keane had been talking about any other player.

Truth is that none of the Ireland rejects in the England team ( Kane, Rice, Grealish ) have cut the mustard so far. Exposed at this level as not good enough and difficult to see any of them even making the bench in a Stephen Kenny squad right now.

True dat England are crying out for a Jeff Hendrick in midfield to control the game and strike fear into the opponent’s. With Jeff they win the Euro’s, without him they won’t make it past the 1/4 finals.

Would agree with this. Don’t really see the issue with what he said.

The issues are these: 1. Baggio (and RK?) seems to think that there is a problem with Kane not "digging out" his teammates, but do any of us know what he's saying in private? I mean, Alex Ferguson never criticised his players publicly - it doesn't mean he didn't lacerate then behind closed doors when necessary. In fact there is a very good reason why Kane cannot do so, since if he were to pick out individuals, that would surely reflect on Southgate for picking them and/or not motivating them properly. Can you imagine what the tabloids would make of that? 2. Roy Keane is a 49 y.o. pundit, who has never played with/against or managed Kane. What does he know about what's going on in the dressing room or training ground between a bunch of 20-something English players? He's not even a journalist, who might have sources on the inside; 3. As for RK's central claim ("Kane isn’t the type of Captain you need when things aren’t going well."), that is just another example of Keane's rank hypocrisy. I mean, where was he when things "werem't going well" for the team he was captaining in Saipan? Oh yeah, he just fcuked off, leaving a sh*tstorm behind him for others to clear up.

So touchy over Kane. He gave his opinions on his leadership, opinions that I’d agree with, that it seems to be the only thing lacking in his game. Saipan was 20 years ago, if we all weren’t allowed give opinions because of a mistake we made 20 years ago the world would be a very quiet place. It’s nonsense, he’s literally paid to give his opinion but when he gives it, it ain’t allowed And Irish fans really need to get over Keane & Saipan at this stage, it’s embarrassing. |

There are many forms of leadership and Keane had his style and Kane has his. Not sure in the modern game would Keane’s style work to be honest and it certainly doesn’t work at managerial level hence why Keane is in the studio and not anywhere else. I wouldn’t be getting touchy over it. Mountain out of a mole hill there by Terri imo.

Woohh slow down angry Nordie. You've got that completely wrong. I was telling you what Keane said to Micah Richards when asked about Kane. |

At least next month is Terriboreial's busy season so he might take a break from getting triggered by Roy Keane/Matt Doherty/Troy Parrott/James McClean or whatever else is bothering him. His ranting about Keane reminds me of George Costanza in Seinfeld. He needs to go to Rageaholics Anonymous to help him deal with it. Edited by Hotlips_Hoolahan - 21 Jun 2021 at 10:18am |

Except it's not about me, is it, it's about Roy Keane. You know, the guy in the title of the thread. On which point, do you have anything to say about the substance of what I posted? Care to analyse it, or defend Keane? No?

And how long is it since Ferguson gave Keane the bum's rush from Old Trafford? D'ya think Keane is "over it" yet?
Which (bold) is precisely the point! If RK were merely chatting with his mates in the pub, that would be fair enough. But when he's taking money for it, you expect insight, analysis and consistency etc - "value for money" if you like. Otherwise you might as well take any oul fella from the pub and have them talk about the game. Whereas I'm saying that Keane is just bluffing, but because of who he is, many people blithely accept what he's saying, without questioning it further. And bluffers in TV studios were precisely the sort of people he used to scorn- quite rightly imo - back in the day when he was in his pomp as a player. But maybe he needs the money, eh?
