Worth remembering that at the time of Pochettino's sacking in November, no Premier League side had lost more matches (18) in all competitions in 2019. Further, they hadn't won an away match in the league since the previous January.
Relegation form.

JM is a busted flush. The game has moved on and he got left behind. If Spurs are to become seriously competitive they need to ditch him and Levy.

Everytime they score the whole team en mass seems to drop 15 yards back the pitch. Typical Jose
That wont work when your best defenders are past their best and you lack bite in midfield. His teams could stand off and watch the opposition with Carvalho and Terry at centre half with Makalele protecting them. |

Whilst it's usually more than the exception than the rule, it's hardly unknown for a new manager to come in and quickly transform a struggling team - see eg Hiddinck at Chelsea or Pearson at Leicester/Watford. And it's one of the things which has made Mourinho's name. Of course he's been given a very poor hand to play, made worse by injuries etc. But the problem with Mourinho is not that he's not been getting results, or even improved performances. It's that even after a clearout of disaffected/unwanted players like Rose, Eriksen, Wanyama etc, half the players he's kept and is picking are clearly not motivated. On Wednesday for example, at home to a poor Norwich team which surely has greater priorities than an FA Cup run, all of their players visibly wanted to win the game, whereas half the Spurs players were kinda hoping to do so (at best). After 4 months in charge, that's clearly not acceptable. Worse, he keeps tinkering with his selections and formations from game to game, so that even some of the motivated players are confused. So that for all his bleating about injuries, when Spurs still had attacking talent like Dele, Bergwijn and Moura available, they still needed a LB to score from a free kick against a Norwich team which was missing Pukki, their only attacking player worth a damn. (This was a Norwich team which had come to WHL just a month ago in the PL and lost unluckily to a late winner, btw, but refused to be downhearted by that.)

It's clear that things weren't right at Spurs for the last 10 or 12 months of Poch's time at the club, concealed to some extent by that CL run. But I have no doubt that the problem was not of his making. Rather it was that after five years in charge, some of his players had become lazy, complacent or even disaffected - most notably Erikssen, the club's best midfielder and Alderweireld, their best defender. It wasn't a lack of ability on their part, as they showed when they could be bothered to go for it in Europe, where they put in some of the best Spurs performances in decades. But Poch wasn't allowed either to take a loss and get rid of them, or to spend the money on quality replacements either. (For example, Spurs were still holding out for £9m for Wanyama as late as January, yet they've just been foreced to let him go to Montreal Impact on a free.) Now it is arguable that with spending nearly £1bn on the new stadium, the money wasn't there for many new signings which is fair enough. But that being so, Levy should imo have been prepared to write this season off while Poch still had his clearout, and concentrated on rebuilding the team and its morale from amongst the player he wanted to keep. Then with two or three signings in summer (2020), he could look to go again. This would actually have worked out cheaper in the long run than sacking him and his staff, appointing Mourinho and his staff - and still losing the players Poch didn't want for sod-all (eg Rose, Erikssen and Wanyama). But that's Levy's way: never mind 5 years of outstanding progress with no money to the next level under Poch, at the first sign of a "wobble", he has to go. And even then, had he appointed someone like Ancellotti, who should have been available, then it might have made some sort of sense. But to appoint a demolition expert like Mourinho, and not give him the money to sign en masse the players needed to get them playing to an entirely new system, was absolute madness.

Unless someone comes in with £3-4bn(?) to buy Spurs, Levy's going absolutely nowhere. He owns 25% of the club, while Joe Lewis, the man who appointed him Chairman in 2001, owns the other 75%. The sole consolation is that he won't hesitate to sack Mourinho, just as soon as he deems it time (and v.likely for FAR less than Mourinho usually walks away with )

Lloris is 33 - young enough for a gk. Vertongen is 32 and Alerweireld was 31 only last week. All three are hugely experienced and should have at least another season or two in them, yet none has performed under Mourinho. (Granted Hugo's been injured for part of this time, but Gazzaniga's a decent deputy, who's been at the club a good while).

Watching them now solely because I have them in an accumulator - what an error in judgment that was. They are putrid.

I hope he didn’t start Moura and Lo Celso because of the match on Tuesday. It’s a free shot v Leipzig - we probably need to score at least 2 goals as we can’t keep clean sheets. But with Jose you never know. He could go with the same line up!

Looking like it - also gave him the opportunity to play a demotivated Ndembele for a half, then launch a typically spiteful and counter-productive pop at him after the game.
A lot of people were claiming that Mourinho's "lost it" as a manager. But while I'm prepared to discount his spell at Man U (I mean, even van Gaal couldn't sort it), and am loathe to write him off after so short a spell at WHL, nonetheless I'm getting increasingly worried by the way he keeps chopping and changing his selections, formations and tactics from match-to-match, with seemingly little logic behind it. I mean, he's not getting performances or results from it.

OH FFS! Steven Bergwijn: Jose Mourinho expects Tottenham winger to miss rest of season with ankle injurySteven Bergwijn's ankle injury means he is unlikely to play again this season, Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho says. The 22-year-old Netherlands winger, who joined Spurs from PSV Eindhoven in January for £27m, was injured in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Burnley. Spurs confirmed on Monday he had suffered a "significant sprain" to his left ankle and faced an "extended period of rehabilitation". |

Name another team in the Premier League who could cope without 3 or 4 of their best players and end up winning every week. Very few teams in world football could cope, Spurs had an already threadbare squad to a point before he took over and are now in the midst of an injury crisis, there is absolutely noway Jose can be blamed for "destroying" Spurs.
