Jack O'Connell at Sheffield United is apparently eligible and being approached.

He is 100% not eligible - I met him once and asked him.

Is he definitely eligible? I'm sure I read before that he was a generation out

Something else on it from an Emmet Malone piece in the Times today. Apparently they thought he wasn't eligible but he might be. I guess Judge is the Brentford player they're talking about.

McCarthy spoke briefly about this first week he has had back in the job and listed Jack O’Connell, the 24-year-old Sheffield United defender, among the players he had gone to see in action.

A current international who had played with him at Brentford had previously dismissed the suggestion that he might qualify for us but the FAI now believes that he might and the matter is being pursued.

I think he is better than a few of those available to us. He is a good defender, hopefully he is coming on board.

I wonder did Egan try and put him off because he knew he was better?

Oh yeah, forgot about Egan. I knew we had another player at Brentford recently but couldn't remember who it was.

Hopefully there is a link there and he becomes another option for us. Brighton were interested in the summer and had a couple of bids turned down. Left-footed too, I think, so would be a useful option if Mick decides to go for a back three.

I think he would be an upgrade on Egan. I think I would prefer him to Long.
He is decent on the ball too, something we badly need.

We're stacked for solid defenders, but not many who can carry the ball out of defence like O'Connell can. He'd be a good addition, especially if McCarthy ever wanted to play 3 at the back.
We're decent enough..

I like Long, probably the person I would want next to Duffy come March.

But I no SWA about this lad.

Long is a good defender but his distribution is poor. If he could work on that hes a very useful player. I see good potential in Long.

Which is why I would have O'Connell ahead of him. He is a good defender who uses the ball well.
