No hope Maddison will play for Ireland. Know his family personally and they are very much English (despite him having Irish grandparents)

He was tweeting his delight at getting called up for the England U-21's a few months ago with the "dream come true" spiel and 3 Lions emojis and all the rest of it so forget about Maddison I reckon. Good player though.

Hopefully there is an opportunity to see Ryan Johansson, of Bayern Munich, play on Wednesday in the UEFA Youth League, as it will be streamed live on YouTube here

As described here, his mother is from Mullingar and he has represented Luxembourg's under-age teams previously.

He's listed on Bayern's UEFA Youth League squad here

Callum Wilson is still listed as eligible on the " Transfermarkt" site, which is unusual considering they're typically quite accurate. Perhaps he did discover an Irish granny after all..

That theory was roundly "debunked" though if I'm not mistaken, perhaps by Wilson himself? In any case, it's a strange one.
