Certainly not people here but the Swedes may not appreciate his behavior
It seems odd to me that his legal team were dealing with FIFA on this for months at the same time as FIFA were working on this significant rule change (which apparently took two years) - you'd think there would have been a word to say just sit back and wait for something we are working on which is a game-changer... End of the day tho this is a lad who's never really played senior football and is only potential, like Sotona and countless other lads. I wish him well. |

Nathan Tormey, young left winger who has represented Ireland at underage level, is on trial with Rangers. He left Arsenal in the summer, turning down a new three year contract with them.

Because there have been other options ahead of him I'd imagine. We're fairly flush with strikers throughout our underage levels. Nothing to suggest he's going anywhere other than the fact he's of Nigerian heritage.

Random question about the new rules if a player over the age of 21 earns a cap is he then tied or must they be played another 3 times to be permanent

My understanding is that the new rules are specifically targeting players u21 that have not played in a senior major tournament. The older standing rules that include players over 21 that have not played a competitive game are still allowed to change national teams once.

May lived there long enough, or many Irish Nigerians have relations in England. Was always a highly rated talent though so not very plausible he wouldn't have been good enough to ever make our squads since Under-16 level if you have any objective sense of reality. Only Parrott rated higher out of the attackers in his age group squads. Having dual or treble eligibility just makes him even more likely to be picked as not doing so would just encourage him to explore other options and imagine the outrage if the FAI did that if he turns out as good as he clearly rates himself to be.

So your "objective view of reality" is to make an assumption based on no concrete evidence whatsoever? If he's made himself unavailable for Ireland then why has he made not made himself available for England or Nigeria instead?

He was 16 and 17 so any number of reasons he didn't play in our Euro U17 team.
We'll know more when the next U19 games come around. He's not doing anything yet to suggest he'll be an international for anyone. |

Obafemi is treated in a similar vein.
The prevalent attitude on here that Irish-born black players have to do more to prove their commitment to Ireland and should be viewed with certain amount of suspicion ought to trouble us all.

I'm not sure that's fair - it's mainly because they inherently are very likely to have more than one choice.
and their choices should be respected. Obafemi is an Irish international and deservedly so. |

I don't think it's a skin colour issue to be fair. The same would apply to players with family connections to Poland, Lithuania, Latvia or anywhere else. It's just that the Irish Nigerian community is producing a ridiculously high number of talented young footballers at the moment so the concern keeps coming up in relation to those players.

I don't think this is correct. The rules have been changed now so that a single senior cap, even in a friendly, after a player turns 21 ties them to that country for life...or at least until FIFA change the rules again.
