There is bound to be more that are eligible......not many fans knew Ryan Bertrand of Chelsea was eligible. Who else is there?

Spot on. I would love the new manager to come out publicly to say that we are actively seeking northern lads from under 16 level upwards who wish to play for us as is their right. A lad in Derry has the same rights to play for his the republic as a cork lad and shouldnt have to go begging the FAI somehow to do it. The FAI should openly call up northern lads to underage squads who are good enough and let those lads decide what to do.

I really can't fathom the Simon Cox hatefest. We all know he isn't a winger as Trap played him since Euro 2012 but I actually thought he did a reasonable job when played up front. He scored a few goals and acts as a decent link man.

As for Green while we appear to have better options he does give is a dogged type of option.
Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get me...

Watched a good few televised Leicester games last year with a leicester supporting mate and that Michael Keane isn't half bad. Very composed on the ball and first to it more often than not. Loses concentration a couple of times a game though. Problem could be fixed with age. It'd be a nice fillip for Ireland if he came back into the fold.

This thread should be named 'The players I don't want to see declare for Ireland'.

Give me a home grown player over these lads any day of the week.

What message does it send out to the young Irish lads trying to make their way in the game?

It was far across the sea,
When the devil got a hold of me,
He wouldn't set me free,
So he kept me soul for ransom.

Agreed.. look at home first then abroad
young players should feel that there is a progression from LoI and other leagues towards higher standing in the senior team.

Agree with ye but when there isnt the quality being produced in ireland then there is no option but to look at people with some irsh connection in them. I say the quality isnt here because in the current u21 the better players are the ones born in england

I would like to see us call Kyle Naughton (Spurs), Matthew Connolly (Cardiff), Anton Ferdinand (Antalyaspor), Mark Noble (West Ham), Harry Kane (Spurs) & Connor Wickham (Sunderland).
