Seen all of Hendrick, Hourihane, Whelan & Byrne numerous times and it’s safe to say Byrne is streets ahead of the rest. Yes he’s in the LOI but won’t be after this season, his style of play means he will only get better when playing with better players. Even with his inexperience at this level there’s no way he would have gifted possession away as much as Hendrick and he would have demanded the ball unlike Hourihane who seems to make sure he hides in every game he plays

Christ - Gannon is quality.

However, I would agree on the age front - bit late.

Decent athlete, poor footballer. Along with Gartland, he was Dundalk's clearest weak-link in terms of implementing their passing style against better sides during their Europa League run. His first touch and distribution leave a lot to be desired.

Have to agree on Gannon. Completely overrated imo. Good player that he is but LOI is his level. Didn't realise he was that 'old'.

Byrne is a lovely wee player. Stands out over others with ease. Remind me of a Richie Ryan. Similar to Ryan he could definetly play at a higher level and Im sure will make a move soon. How far he can go and could he maybe do a Wes on it and go back over to the top level is anybody's guess. In terms of him getting a game for Ireland I think why not give him a chance. That said I think it shows the strength of our squad overall that unproven lads like Byrne, Robinson, Collins are getting games or even in the squad for that matter. Maybe harsh but true.

Safe to say he wont get a look in with Ireland now until Stephen Kenny comes in. The Georgia game was crying out for him to be used and McCarthy left him sitting on the bench even though he said previously if we were chasing a goal he would use him. Wont be trusted against Swiss or Denmark if he didnt feel he was up to playing Georgia.

Can you pass a ball?  Can you tackle?  Can you run?

Yes?

Then forget about playing for The Eire under Mick McCarthy.

It's funny how players that have continuously put in poor performances with limited ability to hold on to the ball are somehow seen as more trustworthy  than a player who has made his name on rarely losing the ball. The skewed logic of thinking is baffling.

James Collins play 30 minutes and is somehow ready to play a full international upfront by himself. Byrne runs the show in the last half an hour. Getting an assist for the second goal, while setting up the third goal, and yet a few minutes at the end of the match is beyond him?

Mick is from the school   of  manager and thinks it's the creative players who cause all the problems.

Aaron Connolly gets 10 minutes the other day and Mick now thinks he's ready. That's as bad as the magic plane to England.

I will not be sad to see the back of the contradictory waffle that comes out of micks mouth.
