I used to blame the acoustics of the Aviva for the poor atmosphere...In reality if the team is doing well the atmosphere will be better. To be fair to the non singing section areas, they got involved far more the last two matches and it improved things greatly

The playoff game against Denmark it was bouncing beforehand too and absolute carnage when Duffy scored. Obviously it went downhill badly from there!!

Yup. The Bosnia game too had a great atmosphere. As has been said, if the team is doing well the place is hopping.

If the fare served up is dire the atsmosphere will suffer and you can’t really blame the fans traps crucial home game v Slovakia a game in point the ground was bouncing at the start but the had the life drained from us as the game progressed . A Radiohead song would of cheered you up at the end Nothing wrong with the Aviva if those on the pitch do the business , Shane long v Germany I will take to my grave

Love Croker for Dublin matches but not a fan for soccer because the pitch being centered the way it was.
Aviva is a decent stadium and great location. Be a nightmare having to take a bus or something out to Abbotstown and then back again. I do agree the view in 114 is not great. I've tend to watch from the upper east or west recently as you get a great view of the match. Obviously you miss the atmosphere but I justify it by being a posted agent in the stand who will try and get the people around me to join in the chants when they get going |

Both are good but I'd go with croker for the extra 30k capacity and large terrace. The atmosphere for ROI matches seemed terrible but then so were results on the pitch.
The match against Italy when we drew 2 2 the place was absolutely hoping. Incredible atmosphere. When we moved to the aviva the atmosphere wasn't great for a while either and it was dire for the rugby team.

Croke Park is only good when it gets to the All Ireland series (Quarter finals on)

The concourse in the south stand lower is far too small. Gets way too crowded on big match days. Bottle necks everywhere |

With the exception of the small stand I think Lansdowne is a very good stadium. A decent view from most areas, the stands are close to the pitch (unlike a lot of stadiums that are being built now), it's within walking range of the city centre with plenty around it. Is it the best stadium I've ever been in? No, but it's better than most. A big one is accessibility. A lot if stadiums now are built in the middle of nowhere and are a pain in the hole to get to/from.

I think both stadiums had to have compromises given they were built in very densely populated areas. There's not many modern stadiums get much love from fans really.
The locations of both is great though, I'm very glad we didn't end up in Abbotstown or some empty site

Croke Park is a great GAA stadium but it wasn’t suited to football due to the size of the pitch. With the lack of live sport we have had over last two years I would even think about going to seeing Munster in Thomond at this stage 😀😀

All modern stadium's are like that with regards to how low the lower tiers are. In a lot of the English EPL grounds, you feel like you're a lot lower than the Aviva.

Lower tiers are too low. Nearly looking upwards. Other new stadiums like say the Friends Area got it right. Aviva looks good from the outside. That’s about it. Poor stadium IMO.

Hated every minute in croke park. Can’t take to “new lansdowne” either though, loved it as it was!

I don't think i will ever be back in Croke Park again , now did all 11 games when Lansdowne was closed and that was enough for me for a life time .

What kind of view do you expect from the front of a lower tier block behind the goal? Why do you think they're the cheapest seats? You'd really have to wonder about people at times. Edited by Paulie - 10 Sep 2021 at 1:13am |

Sure if you were at the front of the canal end it's ****ish too. And the view from the hill is mediocre at best. Great view in Upper tiers though. And was in Upper tier in Lansdowne for the last two games and loved it . Brilliant view!
