Can you explain what the FAI are meant to do? The harsh reality is there is not enough support for a LOI club in Monaghan, and that is the reaon why they folded, lack of financial support. Are the FAI supposed to financially subsidise uneconomic clubs? If so what way should it be done, as in how do you determine how much each club receives etc Have Monaghan or any other LOI club applied for funding from the FAI (not grants in relation to infrastructure) and if so did they receive any and on what terms? Personally I find it hard to see why the FAI should sustain an uneconomic league unless there is an obvious benefit to Irish football. For example I would be completly against the FAI susidising wages, but would be supportive of the FAI paying the wages of coaching staf attached to a LOI for coaching provided to local junior and schools clubs etc. So a LOI player with the proper coaching badge, could do say 15 hours a week coaching in the community for which the FAI would pay him. which would subsidise his income but would deliver a benefit to the football family. It would also make it more feasible for him and his club come to an arrangement to have him playing as a full time pro. For the interest for fairness payments from the FAI should be based on the level of badges obtained by players, and the number of hours paid be based on the catchment area of the clubs.

Monaghan dont deserve a right to be back in the league so soon. They pulled the plug mid-season without trying to make a realistic plan to get them to the end of the season. Galway the year before were hammered up and down the country but to their credit at least they kept their commitment, cut the wages and seen out the season.
Monaghan gave little consideration to other teams in the division by leaving mid-season. For eg. we were supposed to go 4 weeks and pay wages in the mid-season break, so we budgeted for that. They pulled out, so we had no home game and had to go an extra 2 weeks paying wages without gate receipts. No to mention the points deduction in what was a very tight league table at the time.

The costs and spending of the league is unclear does any club know how much is slipping out in expenses. These costs need to be looked at the gravy train hao stop now the clybs are really struggling. 2500 for a surveyor every year but how much of the fines affiliation etc flies out again in expenses. This needs to be looked at urgently.

There is not enough people living out in the sticks to support a club.
