Dave Beasant has been the best guest so far IMO.

Just came across this one today - The Brazilian Shirt Name Podcast. It's a spin off from BBC's World Football Phone-In which itself is excellent. It's presenter Dotun Adebayo and Tim Vickery basically having a really intelligent pub-style conversation, some of it about football, some of it about popular culture, some of it about politics and society, each episode based around a key date in football history. Listening to the August 15th, 1992 episode and it's really good.

Latest Second Captains podcast with Peter Geoghegan on the massive influence of dark money right wing think tanks is very good

Every right-wing cliche you can think of comes from these fringe lunatic charlatan groups

The problem is the success of their strategies means they're no longer considered fringe lunatics, they're in power all over the place

Isn't Second Captain's a sports podcast? He seems a very odd guest.

His book looks interesting though and has been well received.

Yes but has occasional political podcasts hosted by the great Ken Early which are generally pretty good

Geoghegan has been on this podcast at least twice previously

I'm fascinated by the dark money thing and especially the right-wing think tanks and how they have such a hold over media and get away with it

They are all nakedly astro-turf propaganda operations funded by oligarchs and they are a malignant cancer on pubic discourse , they serve the cause of fascism, let's not beat around the bush here, that's exactly what they do

Hitler would have taken over the world had he had think tanks to propagandise for him

That's ridiculous. A lot of the thinking in Irish media is just insane. Their sports podcast sounds like a Transition Year project so they think 'f**k it, let's go for current affairs too'.

Dismissing a current affairs podcast as ridiculous and insane without ever having heard it is ridiculous

If, as sports journalists, they can't manage a sports podcast how the f**k can they do a current affairs one? Why not do one on everything? They are bound to be good at something!

Their sports podcasts are excellent

I doubt there's a better football podcast around, of the ones I've heard only the World Football Phone In comes close

Well worth the fiver a month subscription

Early is a genius

He deconstructs the absurdity of modern football and the whole soap opera around it with the intellect of a philosopher and the anger and humour of a very angry and very funny stand up comedian
