Currently reading Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus.

Something I try to do each October is to read a modern classic horror book.

M. R. James and Sheridan Le Fanu (great Irish supernatural writer) are ones I like.

There's a big collection of the greatly underrated E. F. Benson's ghost stories you can buy for about £3.99.

Looking forward to the new edition of Arthur Machen's weird tales which is out in a couple of days.

Wasn’t it a book by le fanu that was ripped off as a template for Dracula by stoker?

Whilst it is highly likely that Stoker had read Le Fanu's novella "Carmilla", it was only just one of many dozens of inspirations and sources he drew from.

Le Fanu's estate don't seem to have been bothered by Stoker at all. Vampire folklore and literature have existed for centuries in almost every country across the globe.

Both Le Fanu and Stoker were two great Irish writers Thumbs Up

They believe Stoker took inspiration from his mother who witnessed the cholera epidemic in Sligo in the 1830s. His mother wrote a first hand account of what she witnessed. There are similarities between her story and the Dracula story.

Sapiens - Yuval Harari - 7/10.

Found the historical & evolutionary aspects of the book fascinating. Would be interested in his other books which seems to be more theoretical, which were parts of the book I found least interesting.

Touching the Void - Joe Simpson - 7/10.

Couldn't help but shudder every time he described his leg injury and each time it was aggravated as he tried to find his way back to base camp.

First Hand - Eoin Hand - 6/10.

A very interesting career in football. I'd say Saudi in the 80's was a surreal place to be LOL

Any Given Saturday - Shay Given - 5/10.

An easy read. Very sad reading about the death of his mother. Some half funny stories. Seems to love a drink, last generation of footballer who do you'd imagine.

Kaiser - Rob Smyth - 6/10.

The story of the best player to never play a game of professional football. Some mental stories of how he managed to swindle his way to seem like he was a professional footballer. An inevitable sad demise though as he got older. Worth reading.

The Silk Roads - Peter Frankopan - 8/10.

Fascinating take on the history of the world in an economic sense, and the real reason behind some of the most famous wars in history, from a middle east-centric perspective. Highly recommend.

Currently reading "Engage" by Paul Kimmage, the story of Matt Hampson and his life-changing neck injury during an England rugby training camp.

Also reading "In God's Name", which is about the death (assassination) of Pope John Paul I. The RCC being so against the approval of the birth control pill, while the Vatican Bank being one of the majority shareholders of the pharmaceutical company which manufactured the pill, is just one instance of hypocrisy of the church evidenced in the book.

Jimmy Bullard - "Favorite band? Elastic."

Hunty, if you liked the Silk Roads then you might enjoy Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall.
