True, what I have seen has been terrible. He is afraid of crosses and his distribution is as much a hindrance as a help. If he wasn't English we wouldn't have heard of him and he wouldn't have gone for 25 million or whatever it was.

Not the greatest of things to say really is it considering Man City have just signed a non-English keeper same age for £35 million

I don't know who they have signed or what the correlation is? They could have signed twn goalkeepers for 100 million each and it wouldn't be of relevance.

You suggested he was only paid that price because he's English, when Man City paid more for the exact same age and position for a non-English which itself defeats your logic.
The real reason is because it's the normal amount these days for Premier League players, and then you look at how much value/re-sale value you can get out of him - You can get about 10 seasons of him which is about £3 million a season which is an absolute steal itself, or a few seasons and make a profit on him as his development stage is very young.

That isn't the logic, in fact you have misunderstood the logic, deliberately or otherwise. Firstly, no transfer fee can be compared to another these days, for a myriad of reasons. There is no fixed 'transfer value' on a player. Secondly, just because Pickford is overpriced because he is English doesn't mean other players can't be overpriced who are not. There is also the distinct possibility that whoever Man City have bought to play in goal might be a superb 'keeper and well worth the money, I actually don't even know who it is. I understand that Sunderland fans like Pickford, but there is a huge difference in expectation between playing for a team that have been doomed since November and playing for a team with a certain amount of expectation and ambition. From what I have seen of him, even in the clip above where the ball should have been intercepted by the Polish player in a dangerous area and he had another in the game that was, suggest that Everton have paid a lot of money for a player they will have to develop a lot, that seems risky to me and overpriced. Not that I really give a f**k either!

The thing is, I'm not even being biased.
But it's clear here it's being underestimated how much he can turn being pegged back defensively, into a goalscoring opportunity literally within seconds. That itself is a very lot of value

It is indeed a very lot of value itself. The big problem is that the goal scoring opportunity can be at either end of the pitch!

The Man City keeper has plenty of champions league experience and has won two portuguese titles then again Pickford has played for England under 21s and one of the worst sides in PL history, not much difference. Edited by BrendanD88 - 23 Jun 2017 at 4:19pm |

Cheers. He is a decent signing and can understand the fee, if you can ever really understand modern day transfer fees. Benfica didn't need to sell and what they did sell was a keeper with top level experience and who has played for a club with very high expectations. He seems to be an excellent shot stopper too, even if there are also doubts about his aerial ability.

Just seen who they have signed recently and if they get Sigurdsson and another striker they'll have an excellent first team. Coleman and Bolasie to come back from injuries too.

Are they gonna pay the £59m being touted around for Sigurdsson?
Would make the Bernardo Silva signing look like a bargain for City if they do |

At £43m I think that will be a bargain for Bernardo Silva, was hoping United would sign him. |
