Strange. No European football next season and their squad needs gutting. He inherited an aging squad at Inter as well but they had better quality than this and were primed for an immediate title and European challenge. This would only make sense if he was in it for the long haul - but he never lasts long at any club, and he's not going to start bringing through young players at age 58.

Think they would qualify for the Europa Conference League at the moment

Not surprised he went to Italy. I expected him to pitch up in the other side of Milan. Also surprised he didn’t wait out to see what happened with Porto. Roma were bought over in 2020 by an American group who promised to pump money into their squad.

Winning a league with Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso as mainstays in his starting XI was his greatest achievement.

Interesting analysis here of Juve's present difficulties, incl the strong possibility that they might not qualify for the CL next season:

In particular:

"The Champions League has been their dream for years and it has brought them 790m euros in prize money and ticket revenues since 2012-13. But the club's relationship with European football is fast turning into a nightmare.

What a season it has been for president Andrea Agnelli. A pandemic to face with all of its economic consequences, the farce of an attempt to sign Luis Suarez and the assumed Italian language skills that would have enabled him to qualify for citizenship, and then the massive flop that was the Super League, with this week's latest instalment being a threat by Serie A to expel Juve unless they officially withdraw from the ESL.

Missing out on the Champions League would mean a loss of around 90m euros for Juventus. What would that mean on top of the effects of a pandemic? Can a luxury like Ronaldo be retained? Is it realistic to imagine Ronaldo not playing in the Champions League and not trying to improve his personal records? Which club would be willing to pay him such wages though?"

Meanwhile, UEFA are now gunning for them, along with Real M and Barca:

Juventus still have to play Inter Milan and their recent form has been very poor. It would be delightful if they finished 5th and missed a CL slot.

Atalanta who Agnelli has mocked previously as not having the pedigree to be deserving of a place at it look like they will finish 2nd. Karma

The super league getting announced the same weekend that Atalanta beat them was poetic

Good to see corruption is still alive and well in Serie A.

Embarrassing Juventus got a penalty for that at the end to win the game.

Atalanta play AC Milan in the final game. If Juventus win is there any result that won't see them finish 4th?

Atalanta are guaranteed Champions League football, better H2H than Juventus.

If AC Milan and Napoli both win Juventus miss out.

Bizarre. I can't help but feel if it was a similar manager at the English champions, they would be a bit more patient and wouldn't throw their toys out of the pram over behind the scenes issues.

Nothing really to do with patients. Inters owners are skint and need to sell players quick or risking losing the club . Players havnt been paid since Christmas
