Sounds like farmers tried to interrupt the race with a bale of hay on the road, police used pepper spray on them into the wind, and blinded half the peleton while they were at it. Clowns

Who would have thought police could be so stupid?

Bizzare start alright this morning.

really looking forward to tomorrows stage, has the potential to be brilliant, even if it ends up as one sky rider attacking the other

How do ya think they'll play it? Are they not gonna just wait up and let the sky domestiques lead the peloton? It's a novelty idea but can't see how it'll be any different to usual with a sky led group of GC contenders up the first few climbs.

I don't know, I would expect the skybots to get to the front very quickly so maybe it was revert to normal. But it's such a short stage it could be entertaining, would have been great if Porte and Nibali were still in it.

It really depends on the other teams to take the stage to Sky. If they all play the same game & wait for teammates & an enlarged peloton, it will end up much like any other mountain stage, with the top 10 lads fighting it out late on during the last climb to finish in some order after being led up mountains by Sky.  If say, Movistar were to send Krusijwik and Valverde on the attack from the off while Landa stays with the top 4, it would give them a decision to make, to follow them or wait for the teammates to catch up.

You would like to think that someone from the bottom bit of the top 10 might have a go off it, just for the craic if nothing else, there's little to lose and much to be gained. Was clearly wrong about UAE yesterday, they're at fcuk all.

Yeah the only way this blows up today is if some of the Top 10 take off without waiting for domesquies. Lotto Jumbo could have a go, 2 strong riders. They could at least take off at a speed that prevents any domestiques getting involved, Bernal is the only one close in GC that should be able to get up

But then again, even man-on-man, I think the Sky guys are stronger than the others. Happened a few years back in a big stage where Froome was on his own for about 60k and he handled it fine

There are three movistar riders in the top 11 and Bardet has Latour not too far behind.

The rest of the riders are not that far behind on the starting grid, either. The one in the top ten with a teammate furthest behind is, obviously enough, Dan Martin.

took a while to get going but was a decent finish, froome seems to be out of it now with the time he lost.

He was also knocked off his bike after the race by French police, he was going back down the mountain and they told thought he was a spectator!

Good ride by Martin but just hadn't the pace to stay with qunitana when they took off.

Looks to be done bar crashes or punctures at the worst possible time for Thomas. You couldn't entirely rule out Froome doing something Armstrong-like on Friday either, but it would have to be something as Lance himself might put it, ''not normal''.

just like he did in the Giro winning a stage by 3 mins to take the overall lead.

That was insane. "Did a Landis" as one of the other riders said after the stage
