Former Rangers stars face huge bills this year after failing to strike a deal with HMRC over a controversial tax avoidance scheme.
It’s understood several of those who benefited from the Ibrox side’s Employee Benefit Trust (EBT) will be hit with tax demands – with some potentially owing millions.
It’s because they didn’t agree a repayment plan with HMRC by a deadline of April 5.
HMRC rules on so-called “disguised remuneration schemes” say the unpaid money will now be lumped into one income tax bill which is due at the end of the tax year. It’s not known which former Rangers figures have yet to settle with the taxman.
A source connected with the EBT investigation said: “Some former players were quick to agree a deal with the taxman who has been very fair in sorting out repayment plans.
“But others involved in the EBT scheme believe it’s the club who are to blame for this and are reluctant to pay the tax.”
HMRC was given power to go after former Rangers figures following a Supreme Court ruling in July 2017 that said EBT payments made under the David Murray regime at Ibrox were not loans but earnings that should have been taxed.
The payback could hit Ibrox old boys from goalie Stefan Klos to less heralded signings including Nuno Capucho and Julien Rodriguez.
Former club owner Murray, with an estimated liability of more than £3million, is by far the biggest potential loser.
A UK spokesman said: “HMRC is committed to providing affordable payment arrangements and enhanced support more vulnerable customers may need.”

A lof of these players will obviously live abroad. What's the story trying to force them to pay their tax back if they are say a resident in Spain?

Anyone??

"They're very physical," Gerrard said. "Do they try harder against Rangers? That's the way it looks on the eye. We watched them against Celtic and they never laid a finger on Celtic in the semi-final.

Ryan Christie might disagree with Slippy after getting his face smashed in against them

H came across as an awful eejit  as a player, he has done nothing to change that as a manager. I’ll say this for him though, he doesn’t embarrass easily.

McInnes  The second penalty was nothing short of embarrassing how that can be given as a penalty kick and my player getting sent off.

"I think the referee should deal with it better and see it for what it is. I think the Rangers player should hang his head in shame at the way he went down. There's absolutely no contact for me having seen it again and I think he's the one who should have been dealt with for trying to buy a penalty kick. And unfortunately for us the referee's bought it

There was a little contact but it wasn't a peno and certainly wasn't a booking.

Slippy G in todays Daily Rectum...

“If they can’t get the same money elsewhere, it’s not my problem. They should think about that when signing contracts here and asking for all kinds of money. Those conversations will happen. I’ve had them before but there will be more between now and the end of the season."

I'm no expert (as u all know and love) but players are under no obligation whatsoever to happily end binding contracts, it's what they signed for in the first place.

Winston Bogarde at Chelsea & Jack Rodwell at Sunderland to name but a few

Apparently Lafferty is one of the players he wants rid, can't see him dropping a decent contract at this stage of his career - sevco paying half his wage while another team pays the other half in a season long loan is the best they'll get I reckon

Those Scottish football awards are an absolute sham
That was Turnbulls trophy hands down for ypoty
They gave it to that Kent cos he plays for the Huns and they need to feel like they've earned something this year
Scotland is all about appeasing Huns
Even that Motherwell winger Hastie got a nomination after only playing top tier since Jan / Feb , ahead of Ajer?? He only got nominated cos he's joining sevco

It's also a fecking begging letter to Liverpool, "oh look look look, we develop players to be outstanding up here !! "

Load of corrupt pish

Feck the SFA, feck the spl and, feck Huns and feck Scotland
