In fairness, I think you can see a difference between the way Chelsea handled Lampard and Man U have handled OGS. OGS undoubtedly is well supported by the inner circle at Man U, and that is helping his case. Lampard’s exit was a pragmatic business decision which so far has looked shrewd.

It could turn out to be case but I think a lazy conclusion. 1 in 9 isnt outstanding - ok give him a pass on the first season as there was a considerable gap. 1 in 6. any half decent manager could achieve that. Last season Celtic were p*ss poor.  Their ex manager will struggle to get a gig anywhere so Gerrards 1 win is a low bench mark. He'll need to do a lot at Villa to be a stand out candidate to replace Klopp.

Villa need a win soon or will be in a dog fight at the bottom - not something Slippy has experience of.

Back to the Rangers - games coming thick and fast after the international break so they need someone in soon. Next game is a cup semi final. Loose that and the new man will be under pressure.

I find this automatic anointing very funny.  Bryan Robson and Steve Bruce had good managerial careers, better than Gerrard's but they were nowhere near the Man U job when Ferguson left.  Liverpool is a business, run by realists, who had no problem sacking Dalglish in the past for example.  Gerrard would have to have taken Villa into the Champions League and won some silverware before he is considered for the job I feel.

I really don't think he will need to over-archive so spectacularly to be considered for the Liverpool job. He just needs a steady mid-table performance, maybe a decent cup run or two, and he should be good for it.

Interesting. Under Gerrard, Rangers won one out of a possible nine trophies ( less than St.Johnstone ). Any prospective new manager with knowledge of these finances will not fancy his chances of doing any better with the Celts resurgent. They're going to have to sell some of their better players soon.

They don't care about finances

spend Spend SPEND (money they don't have) is the sevco philosophy

It's all in on winning the league/free champs lge money

They'll promise the new manager everything

They'll deal with not winning the league/getting free champs lge money when they get there

Winning the league this season and CL qualification is massive for them.

The comments below the article suggests the owners (based on a the athletic article) are no longer willing to dilute their shareholding. And want some money back soon.
Do they hang on til the summer (champions league €€ or if they don’t get it player sales) or start to cash in on a player or 2 now. They could loose value at the months pass with player contracts running down.

December results will sway things I think so the timing of SG leaving not great.

Lead story in the Herald.

Auditors questioning sevco’s capacity to continue as a going concern.

Why only a story now? Ffs

AUDITORS have raised a ‘going concern’ warning over Rangers FC as it emerged the club has accumulated nearly £80m in losses since the Dave King regime change six years ago.

The ‘material uncertainty’ warning came as the club confirmed a loan facility with an unidentified high street bank for the first time since Mr King wrested control of the club from Sports Direct supremo and former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley.

Van Bronkhorst announced this week

Can see him in the stands 'observing' the cup semi on Sunday though
I seriously doubt sevco will risk their new saviours first game being another cup exit, they'll leave Brian Gilmour, David McCallum , Jerry Defoe & Colin Stewart in charge - win/win situation there

GVB will probably be a good enough appointment for them but, given their finances, it's a van Bankheist they'll need to survive

I didn't think he would accept being paid by credit card.

Lads, put all bets on Bronkhorst in the Rangers dugout
It would damage this forums' reputation
